      The West Chester Area School District has a Director of Teaching and Learning and Equity available (certification requirement – appropriate valid PA certification):

      • Director of Teaching and Learning and Equity - Spellman Education Center

      The Director of Teaching, Learning, and Equity provides staff development expertise and leadership while acting as a leader, a resource, and a collaborator with the Curriculum Staff in the areas of curriculum and instruction and with the Equity and Inclusion Coaches and Liaisons. This position is a central office administrator who reports directly to the Deputy Superintendent.

      QUALIFICATIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

      To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualification requirements listed below represent minimum levels of educational achievement, training, skill and/or ability necessary.

      • Supervisory Certificate - Curriculum & Instruction or Principal Certificate
      • Minimum of Three Years of Supervisory and/or Building Level Administrative experience in public school setting
      • Extensive knowledge and experience in the development of K-12 curriculum and in leading high quality professional development
      • Extensive knowledge and experience in the development of equitable instruction, improving school climate, and student and staff belonging
      • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations
      • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals
      • Possess effective interpersonal skills with the ability to interface diplomatically with other administrators, teachers, parents, students, Board members, support staff, colleagues, and outside professional contacts
      • Ability to work with and apply mathematical concepts; ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; proficiency in the use of technology for individual and system management, communication, and research; proficiency in presentation technology to enhance small and large group information and demonstration sessions
      • Qualified candidate will be required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, and to talk and hear; Sit and occasionally be required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel and crouch; Have specific vision abilities, to include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus; Have the ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; and possess effective communication, judgmental, planning and human relations skills, and will be required to work under periods of stress due to the level of the position responsibility.

      ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

      Curriculum & Instruction

      1. Participates and facilitates the monthly meetings of the Instructional Leadership Team.
      2. Sits as a standing member and participant of the Instructional Cabinet.
      3. Sits as a standing member and participant on the Superintendent’s Cabinet.
      4. Ensures vertical alignment of curriculum and instruction.
      5. Directly supervises all K-12 curriculum supervisors.
      6. Facilitates and leads curriculum program reviews and recommendations.
      7. Leads K-12 curriculum review and adoption, which includes writing, revising and mapping of District curriculum.
      8. Facilitates and leads data analysis as it pertains to curriculum and instruction.
      9. Facilitates and organizes curriculum review and material selection cycles.
      10. Reviews district assessments, and uses data to plan instruction.
      11. Prepares budget for each service and/or function under his/her responsibility and controls expenditures within the established budget limitations.
      12. Presents curriculum progress reports on a periodic basis to keep School Board informed.
      13. Conducts observations and site visits to ensure curriculum and program implementation.
      14. Participates in building, district, state and nation-wide opportunities to continue personal professional development.
      15. Maintains an awareness of trends; anticipates and researches current topics of interest to a wide range of educators.
      16. Responsible for the oversight of Title I and Title II Federal Programs.

      Equity

      1. Plans, guides, and advises superintendent on diversity and equity matters.
      2. Assesses and reports on district progress toward meeting diversity and equity goals.
      3. Develops and implements district-wide training to increase positive climate and student and staff belonging.
      4. Leads and coordinates diversity, equity, and inclusion training across the school district.
      5. Identifies progress metrics towards equity goals and prepares periodic reports for the superintendent and the school board for measuring diversity and culturally representative resources that improve student belonging, achievement, access to district programming, and advanced equity goals.
      6. Supports Human Resources with recommendations for increasing the number of new employees with diverse backgrounds to ensure the staff across the district is representative of the student body and the community.

      Professional Development

      Supports administrators, curriculum supervisors, and staff in the planning and evaluation of professional development.

      1. Monitors professional development with district administrators to ensure that all professional development activities meet the criteria standards as outlined by Act 48, the Pennsylvania Inspired Leadership guidelines, the National Staff Development Councils’ Standards for Professional Development, Pennsylvania Academic Standards and is research-based.
      2. Confers with Superintendent’s Cabinet, Instructional Cabinet, Curriculum Supervisors, and principals to monitor student assessment data to help identify areas of need for future professional development.
      3. Helps to plan and schedule sessions for in-service days with curriculum leaders, supervisors, and principals.
      4. Coordinates with administrators the development of rubrics by which to measure teachers’ professional learning.
      5. Reviews the professional development evaluation forms and develops reports based on staff feedback from the evaluation database.
      6. Attends meetings to support focused professional development and facilitates learning communities to align with district and school goals.
      7. Evaluates Curriculum Staff
      8. Disseminates information on professional development opportunities to staff.
      9. Facilitates and coordinates District Professional Development Advisory Council
      10. Directs and coordinates the development and implementation of the District Teacher Induction Program K-12.
      11. Supports the mentoring of new teachers and training of mentors K-12.
      12. Performs other duties as directed by the Superintendent.

      Salary: Per Administrative Contract
