      Primary Purpose:

      To work in the absence of a regular teacher, aiding students in their daily tasks and helping ensure the understanding of the subject matter being covered.

      Qualifications:

      Education/Certification:
      High school diploma
      60+ college hours (preferred)

      Special Knowledge/Skills:
      Knowledge of special needs of disadvantaged and at risk students
      General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
      Ability to work well with children
      Ability to communicate effectively

      Experience:
      Some experience working with children

      Major Responsibilities and Duties:

      Instructional Support

      • Use materials provided to attain lesson goals
      • Direct the classroom, accomplishing curriculum objectives and goals outlined in the lesson plans
      • Take attendance according to the procedures of the school, keep classroom and work orderly, and maintain normal classroom rhythms
      • Comply with all procedures, guidelines, and policies of the school at all times
      • Maintain a professional attitude in all manner of conduct with students, faculty, and parents, including a commitment to confidentiality

      1. Provide academic assistance to assigned students, either in a group or individually.

      2. If necessary, attend periodic training sessions/meetings provided by Lubbock ISD staff to increase competency in working with students.

      5. Provide evaluations and other reports as requested.

      6. Help students develop positive attitudes toward learning and studying.

      7. Help students develop self-confidence, raise self-concept, and reduce anxiety or fear of failure in academic work.


      8. Help students develop a high level of motivation in academic areas.

      9. Assist students in achieving a better understanding of specific subject material and in
      improving academic capabilities in designated areas.

      10. Help students develop the study skills necessary for academic success.

      11. Establish and maintain rapport with assigned student and his/her family.

      12. Serve as a role model/mentor for students being served.

      13. Communicate frequently and honestly with the Migrant Education Liaison regarding
      student progress and areas of concern.
