- Directs the high school band. Direct in planning the instructional program needs of secondary school bands. Lead and mentor assistant high school band directors and Jr. High band directors in instructional pedagogy regarding marching, concert/sight reading, solo/ensemble instrumental music, mariachi ensemble, and jazz band as requested by the high school principal in collaboration with the junior high school feeder pattern principals.
- Monitors musical performance requirements, enforces academic requirements, verify each student’s academic requirements and verify each student’s eligibility to participate in all band activities inclusive of marching, performing ensembles, concert, solo/ensemble, District, Region, Area, and All-State Band contests.
- Coordinates band participation at extracurricular events, including concerts, football games, pep rallies, parades, UIL, TMEA activities, and other activities throughout the year, including community activities.
- Complies with local board policy, federal and state laws, State Board of Education Rules, UIL, and TMEA rules as applicable to instrumental music instruction and extracurricular activities.
- Supports and collaborates with the band booster organization to provide the support needed for a successful band program.
- Obtains and uses evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to determine program effectiveness. Ensures that the instrumental music program is administered in a continuous and consistent form, and responds to student music instructional needs.
- Recommends changes in policies/procedures that may need implementation to improve operation of the band program.
- Ensures that programs are cost effective and funds are managed wisely.
- Compiles budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs.
- Coordinates and approves purchase requisitions with regards to transportation, lodging, and meals for out-of-town events.
- Coordinates fundraising activities and manages funds and files financial reports to the high school principal regarding all financial transactions.
- Maintains a current inventory of all fixed assets within department.
- Oversees process of cleaning, maintaining, repairing, and storing all band equipment. Keeps the music library organized and catalogued for easy accessibility to band literature.
- Develops and implements plans for instrumental music programs and shows written evidence of preparation as required.
- Prepares lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences.
- Presents subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
- Plans and uses appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
- Conducts ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
- Creates an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Applies and enforces student discipline in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
- Accompanies and supervises students on out-of-town trips.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Establishes and maintains open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
- Maintains professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
- Assists with recruitment and selection of personnel.
- Assists, mentors, collaborates with and monitors Jr. High Band Programs and provides input to the principal during the process.
- Assists and evaluates Assistant Band Directors.
- Participates in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
- Keeps informed of and complies with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
- Compiles, maintains, and files all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
- Attends and participates in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
- Demonstrates interest and initiative in professional improvement.

- Collaborates and assists the Fine Arts Director with the development/guidance of district music programs from elementary through high school for the assigned vertical team.
- Creates and annually updates a Jr. High Band Program standard operating guide/manual for outlining standards, procedures, roles and responsibilities, and job assignments for band directors and band director assistants.
- Performs all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or others.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Constant walking, standing, and movement to ensure safety and well-being of students in large open areas such as playgrounds, gyms, football fields, shop areas, etc.
- Physical activity, modeling, and directing instruction in front of large group setting of students in order to define/model expected and appropriate behaviors
- Lifting, carrying, or pulling of instructional equipment such as balls, instruments, cases, tools, etc. which are necessary to the instructional delivery of the lesson
- Exposure to various climate settings and temperatures relative to classroom instruction within/outside school building/facility

PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Direct and manage the instrumental music program for the assigned high school and work with and collaborate with feeder junior high schools. Provide students with an opportunity to participate in extracurricular band activities, including competitive University Interscholastic League (UIL) events and non-competitive events. Ensure compliance with state, University Interscholastic League (UIL),Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA), and local district requirements. Plan instructional activities to maximize vertical alignment and student achievement and recognition in district, region, area, and state competitions.
