      2024-2025 Patrol Police Officer-260 Days @ Police Department

      Primary Purpose:

      Patrol district property to protect all students, personnel, and visitors from physical harm and prevent property loss due to theft or vandalism. Enforce all laws including municipal ordinances, county ordinances, and state laws. Works independently.

      Qualifications:

      Education/Certification:


      • High school diploma or GED
      • Texas Peace Officer License issued by TCOLE
      • Clear and valid Texas driver’s license


      Special Knowledge/Skills:

      • General knowledge of criminal investigation, police report writing, and criminal laws
      • Training and ability to subdue offenders, including use of firearms and handcuffs
      • Bonded as required by Texas Education Code §37.081(h)
      • Ability to pass required physical, psychiatric, and drug tests
      • Ability to work well with youth and adults
      • Good human relations and communication skills
      • Ability to work independently


      Experience:


      • Background in law enforcement or related work experience

      Major Responsibilities and Duties

      Law Enforcement

      • Protect Alief ISD students, personnel, and property.
      • Patrol assigned campus(s) and routes walking or driving within district jurisdiction.
      • Works in conjunction with district emergency response teams in emergencies.
      • Respond to all calls from campuses concerning crisis situations, accidents, and reports of crime.
      • Investigate criminal offenses occurring within district’s jurisdiction.
      • Collect and preserve evidence for criminal investigations including witness statements and physical evidence.
      • Arrest perpetrators, file appropriate charges, and ensure placement in jail or juvenile detention centers for law violations as necessary.
      • Write effective legal incident reports.
      • Testify in court as needed.
      • Work cooperatively with other police agencies to share information and provide other assistance.
      • May check camera and alarm systems to verify if they are functioning properly.
      • Transport district funds if requested or assigned.
      • Enforce parking regulations on Alief ISD property.

      Safety

      • Provide security and support for special events and community related activities if requested or assigned.
      • Provide protection to or escort district personnel as needed.
      • May help provide traffic control at athletic events, school closings or openings, or at any other time.
      • Operate all equipment including firearms according to established safety procedures.
      • Use sound judgment and effectively communicate with and elicit information from emotionally distraught students, staff, parents, and citizens.
      • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

      Administration

      • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and documents required, including affidavits for arrest, incident reports, and activity reports.

      Other:

      • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
      • Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
      • Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
      • Perform other duties as assigned.

      Supervisory Responsibilities:

      None

      Evaluation:

      Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of Police Officer Personnel.

      Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

      Tools/Equipment Used: District vehicle, firearm, handcuffs, alarm system, security equipment, two-way radio, alarm system and other security equipment, fire extinguisher,

      and standard office equipment including computer and peripherals

      Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing

      Motion: Strenuous walking and climbing; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; frequent driving

      Lifting: Moderate lifting and carrying (15 - 44 pounds)

      Environment: Work inside and outside (moderate exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather). Frequent districtwide travel

      Other: Requires sufficient strength, agility, dexterity, hand-eye-foot coordination, hearing and vision to perform all essential functions of the classification, including ability to react quickly and effectively to emergency situations. May be subject to adverse and hazardous working conditions, including violent and armed confrontations. Ability to control sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others and exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously.

      Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; prolonged hours; on call 24 hours a day.

      Salary Range Min-$55,801 Mid-$67,308 Max-$78,813 (Based on previous experience)
