      Summer Interns will have access to experienced Finance, Global Banking and Markets, and support team executives, as they network and interact with various business partners that support a full-service brokerage and banking organization. The program involves frequent interactive learning sessions led by our experienced professionals.       Is this role right for you?

      The Scotiabank Global Banking and Markets business provides a full range of credit, risk management and investment banking products and services relevant to the financing and strategic development needs of our clients. Our products include investment banking, mergers & acquisitions, corporate banking, institutional equity sales, trading and research, debt products, derivatives, foreign currencies and commodities.

      The U.S. Finance Internship program at Scotiabank is designed to introduce undergraduate and graduate students to the stimulating and dynamic environment of a full-service global banking and brokerage business. The main function of the U.S. Finance team is to contribute to the overall success of the Global Banking and Markets business by providing timely and accurate reporting to various key stakeholders. Stakeholders include, regulatory reports provided to U.S. regulatory organizations, management reporting provided to executives and line of business heads, consolidated financial information supporting the overall banks results shared with investors, and capital reporting for bankers to access how to size and price deals when servicing Scotiabank clients. The U.S. Finance team works closely with the Global Banking and Markets Business, and other support areas in providing, guidance on new business initiatives, forecasting and planning, and maintaining budgets throughout the year.

      What will my responsibilities look like?

      • Provide assistance to the U.S. Finance staff on the execution of their day-to-day functions
      • Execute research projects that arise on an ad hoc basis
      • Assist the Controller is in the development of procedures covering the month-end accounting close preparation of the financial statements
      • Prepare presentations for the CEO, COO, and CFO providing commentary for monthly, weekly, and quarterly balance sheet and income statement variances
      • Assist in gathering support for various Finance audits, including U.S. Regulators, Public Accountants, and internal audit
      • Assist in preparing the materials and participating in key monthly control forums with Compliance, Legal, Market Risk, the CEO, CFO, COO
      • Work on building efficiencies in some of the manual spreadsheet-based reporting processes

      • Pursuing an undergraduate degree or graduate degree to be completed between December 2024 and August 2025 within Business, Accounting, Science Technology, Engineering, Economics, or Math disciplines
      • A proven record of outstanding achievement in academic and extracurricular activities
      • An independent thinker and decision-maker who can contribute effectively to the team's success
      • Strong interpersonal skills with a passion to work in a client facing environment
      • Ability to meet the challenges presented by a fast paced, constantly changing work environment
