      Department Summary

      Genentech’s Research and Early Development (gRED) Early Clinical Development (ECD) organization is responsible for developing and executing early development clinical strategies to provide proof-of-concept for the safety and efficacy of gRED new molecular entities.

      The intern will be part of the Ophthalmology team, working under the Group Medical Director and the Digital Health specialists. The role involves supporting projects using virtual reality headsets for visual field assessment in Glaucoma and retinal disease patients. Responsibilities include feasibility studies, device performance evaluation in specific patient groups, and collaboration with the Human Design lab to enhance home use of these devices. The projects are pivotal in enhancing clinical trial metrics and endpoints.

      This internship position is located in South San Francisco, On Site.

      Key Responsibilities

      • Collaborate with the Clinical Science Team and the ECD Digital Health team in clinical studies.

      • Present research internally at Genentech and potentially at external conferences and in publications.

      • Lead or contribute in business-critical projects

      • Collaborate with top professionals in the biotechnology and digital health field

      • Participate or lead intern committees, organizing program events and initiatives

      • Engage in professional and personal development activities, including networking events, workshops, and discussions.

      Program Highlights

      • Intensive 24-weeks (6 Months), full time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

      • Program start dates are in May/June

      • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

      Required Education:

      • Bachelor or advanced degree in progress (MS, PhD) or recently completed

      Required Majors: Biological or Biomedical Sciences, Data Science, Digital Health

      Preferred Qualifications

      • Data analysis and visualization skills, clinical/healthcare data analysis experience is a plus

      • Interest or background in digital health, ophthalmology or neurodegenerative diseases beneficial

      • Demonstrates strong ethical principles, aligning with gRED values.

      • Exceptional attention to detail.

      • Proven project management skills, capable of prioritizing and delivering tasks efficiently.

      • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, able to influence without authority and build productive relationships.

      • Strong written communication abilities.

      • Proficient in presenting complex information clearly and concisely.

      • Excellent teamwork capabilities, working effectively towards common goals.

      Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

      The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location for this position in California is $22.00 - $55.00 per hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
