      This is for a 2024 summer internship with the following start dates: May - August or June - September for quarter system schools.

      IBM Research AI's Internship Program offers an opportunity for students to work closely with IBM research scientists and engineers on cutting edge research projects with the aim of improving state of the art in artificial intelligence.

      Recent advent of large language models has shown great promise for increased productivity across a wide range of industries. However, safety and trustworthiness of these models continue to be an open problem especially for commercial applications. IBM is dedicated towards developing responsible generative AI products with a principal focus on trust enabling enterprises to feel confident in the model responses.

      In your role as AI Research Software Engineer, you will be working in close collaborations with researchers and engineers to develop novel large language models with an emphasis on safety and trustworthiness. This may also include any research related to your project. You will also deliver production level–code to support the commercialization of the resulting assets. Demonstrated communication skills are essential.
      • Experience in web application development and frameworks including HTML, CSS and JavaScript, JQuery, React, Flask, Node.js, etc.
      • Backend storage technologies such as SQL and Non–SQL databases (Postgres, MongoDB, Cloudant, ElasticSearch etc.)
      • Experience in Kubernetes CI/CD tools and operators, IBM Cloud and machine learning training pipelines
      • Software engineering practices including agile techniques
      • System building/debugging/testing skills
      • Qualitative and quantitative user research and user–centric design
      • Solving analytical problems using rigorous and quantitative approaches
      • Analyzing large scale data from a variety of sources
      • Experience publishing scientific results in technical communities such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, IJCAI, ACL, AAAI, or similar
