      What You’ll Do

      Across the City and County of Denver, we have several agencies that offer supportive services to children, families, adults, and a wide variety of diverse populations across the City . Many departments seek emerging talent (interns and fellows) to help provide service to specific populations, learn case work principles, support victims, perform community outreach and engagement, and/or support any of these functions. Our employees help clients navigate social and economic pressures by connecting them to services and experts who support their overall well-being.

      As a Social Services Intern you will be under the S upervision of a subject matter expert or Department Supervisor to assist in performing work aligned to one of the followi ng tracks:

      • Case Management

      • Donor Relations

      • Victim , Refugee, and Immigrant Advocate

      • Community Engagement/Outreach

      • Social Services Program C oordinat or

      • Human Services C ustomer S ervice

      • Emergency Response

      As a Social Services Intern your responsibilities and duti es will be dependent on the alignment of the track . Please note not all positions will be client or community facing but you can anticipate supporting programs which you will directly impact our clients or community . Below may not include all of the listed responsibilities and duties :

      • Serve clients in nee d

      • Practice and perform case management duties

      • Navigate community partners

      • Fundraising for specific programs

      • Supporting events such as donation drives and educational community events

      • Perform other related duties as required.

      IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Some of the internships categorized as Social Services Internships, may offer the opportunity to interact with clients under the supervision of a licensed Social Worker , Psychologist or Behavioral Therapist which may meet certain program requirements and could constitute as clinical or counseling hours. However, there are other internships in which the Intern will have limited to no client interaction and/ or will not be under the supervision of a licensed Social Worke r, Psychologist or Behavioral Therapist. As such, those internships would not qualify or meet the criteria to receive clinical or counseling hours for various academic programs. Please make sure note in your application if you are only seeking internship opportunities under the supervision of a licensed Social Worker , Psychologist or Behavioral Therapist due to your program requirements.

      About You

      Our ideal candidate will have/be:

      • Pursing a certificate, licensure, or degree in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Human Services, Criminolo g y or closely related field

      • Ability to intern June through September for an average of 10-20 hours per week with the possibility of an internship extension.

      • Interest in community engage and/or supporting individuals and families in emergent need.

      • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to navigate challenging communication.

      • Interest in local government and supporting work that is related to or direct service to the community.

      • Desire to grow professionally and accept feedback and critique

      • Interest in taking ownership and engagement in your day-to-day work.

      • Demonstrated ability to learn and resolve through critical thinking

      • Ability and interest in collaboration to accomplish projects and goals

      • Excellent customer service, resiliency, and time management skills


      Minimum qualifications:

      • Education: Current enrollment in an accredited college program leading to a certificate, licensure, associates, bachelor’s, or higher degree or a recent ly graduate (completed specified program within less than 1 year of completion)

      • Experience: None

      • Education and Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted

      • Licensure and certifications: By position

      • Transcripts either official or unofficial; dated within your current academic term

All City and County of Denver emerging talent positions are supported by a trained hiring manager and encouraged to attend up to 4 sessions of professional development each season (Winter/Spring, Summer and Fall). You will be onboarded with a cohort of peers to begin to help you develop your network across the City and so you can go through similar programming throughout your time at the City.

      Location Flexibility

      The City and County of Denver utilizes a hybrid model workplace that balances the responsibilities of public service with the benefits of a flexible work environment. Employees work where needed, at a city site and/or in the field several days a week and telecommute remotely at a designated workplace within the State of Colorado the remaining days.
