  2024 Summer Intern - gRED - Regenerative Medicine

  Department Summary

  The Regenerative Medicine department in Research is seeking for a curious and creative Intern. The selected candidate will contribute to groundbreaking research in the field of regenerative processes, focusing on understanding tissue injury and regeneration in the context of homeostasis, aging, and disease. This position offers the opportunity to collaborate with diverse teams and translate discoveries into innovative regenerative therapies, thus improving patients' lives.

  This internship position is located in South San Francisco, On Site.

  Key Responsibilities:

  • Investigate fundamental processes underlying tissue injury and regeneration, emphasizing cell plasticity and other regenerative strategies.

  • Utilizing in vivo, in vitro, and ex vivo model systems (organoids) to discover novel pathways and processes involved in degenerative diseases.

  • Develop and lead projects to identify and characterize novel biological insights with the ultimate goal of advancing regenerative therapies for diabetes and thyroid diseases.

  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams across Genentech to enhance cross-functional cooperation and achieve research objectives.

  Program Highlights

  • Intensive 12-weeks, full time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

  • Program start dates are in May/June

  • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

  • Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

  Who You Are

  A curious, creative, dynamic and independent scientist pursuing your PhD.

  Required education and experience:

  • Must be pursuing a PhD in molecular, cellular, developmental, or stem cell biology, immunology, biochemistry or related disciplines.

  • Experience with in vitro cultures.

  • Excellent communication, problem-solving and teamwork skills.

  Preferred Experience:

  • Proficiency in culturing 2D and 3D murine/human organoids, iPSCs, and cellular biology techniques.

  • Proficiency with animal models and related techniques.

  • Expertise in stem cell biology, regeneration, cell plasticity, and cellular reprogramming.

  • Background in pancreas and/or thyroid biology and experience with histological techniques.

  • Ability to conduct and analyze genomic perturbation screens and next-generation sequencing datasets.

  Other Preferred Qualifications

  • Candidates who are part of GEM/Meyerhoff programs are preferred.

  The expected salary for this position based on the primary location for this position in California is $38.00 - $45.00 per hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
