      The Genentech Marketing MBA Internship Program is an intensive 12 week opportunity that provides work within a fast-paced and challenging environment. MBA interns contribute to meaningful projects, interacting and working side by side with biotech industry experts. Our internship program also provides a robust speaker series, which allows interns to hear from top executives throughout the summer. Genentech relies heavily on our internship talent pool to fill full-time positions.

      Commercial Marketing MBA Interns will be considered for full-time opportunities including Genentech’s Commercial Rotational Development Program (CRDP). The CRDP provides the opportunity for high potential future leaders to gain exposure to functions that are critical to Genentech’s Commercial organization including US Field Sales.

      Commercial Operations Overview

      U.S. Commercial Operations plays a crucial role in bringing Genentech's therapies to our customers by transforming scientific innovations into changes in the practice of medicine that enhance and extend patients' lives. The organization's primary focus is to market and sell novel, targeted therapies for a variety of disease areas.

      Commercial involvement in the product lifecycle begins early in the research and development phase. We bring our expertise to the process through market and competitive analysis and strategies, thought leader work, publication plans, pricing, promotional tactics, brand marketing, sales force training and managed care marketing.

      Commercial's expertise is focused on:

      • Marketing and selling novel therapies for various disease areas

      • Optimizing operations through innovation, efficiency, data-driven decision making and business compliance

      • Delivering and shaping managed markets solutions to advance patient access


      This internship position is located in South San Francisco , on site.

      Key Responsibilities

      • Marketing Summer Associates will have significant cross-functional collaboration across multiple stakeholders and department in the company, including, but not limited to Marketing, Operations, Portfolio, Strategic Analysis and Insights, Access, Legal, Regulatory, Finance and our Customer Engagement Teams.

      • Previous projects have included ownership or leadership of Key Marketing tactics; Commercial Launch Planning and Execution; Translating Customer Insights into Business Deliverables; Competitive Readiness Evaluations; Access Strategy; Measurement and ROI and more!

      Program Highlights

      • Intensive 12-weeks, full time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

      • Program start dates are in May and June 2024.

      • Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

      • Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.

      • Final presentations of project work to senior leaders.

      • Lead or participate in intern committees to design and coordinate program events and initiatives.

      • Professional & personal development curriculum throughout the program, including networking opportunities, workshops, and panel discussions.

      • Participate in volunteer projects, social events, and team-building activities.

      Who You Are

      Responsibilities and requirements for each position will vary depending on function and current level of experience. Applicants must be current students enrolled in an accredited MBA program.

      • 4-6 years of work experience prior to graduate school in marketing consulting, finance, sales or drug development

      • Prior work experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industries

      • Strong quantitative and analytical skills

      • Demonstrated ability and experience in effectively interacting with executives and senior leaders

      • Demonstrated leadership skills and experience

      • Excellent communication skills

      The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location for this position of California is $21.00 - $50.00 per hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
