      2024 Summer Intern –Department of Biological Chemistry (Early Discovery Biochemistry Organization)

      Department Summary

      The Department of Biological Chemistry combines biochemical, chemical, structural, and combinatorial approaches to explore protein functions and molecular interactions, with the primary goal of assessing the tractability of biological targets for therapeutic intervention. In addition, we support gRED (Genentech Research & Early Development) pipeline projects by providing biochemistry and biophysics expertise and resources. This and the Peptide Therapeutics department together constitute the Early Discovery Biochemistry organization.

      This internship position is located onsite at South San Francisco.

      Key Responsibilities

      • Express, purify and characterize recombinant proteins

      • Perform biochemical and biophysical assays for protein-protein and protein-ligand interactions

      • Peptide display of peptide/protein scaffolds

      • Analyze and present results to the group

      Program Highlights

      • Intensive 12-weeks, full time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

      • Program start dates are in May/June 2024

      • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

      • Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

      • Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.

      Who You Are (Required)

      You are a highly curious and driven researcher willing to take on challenging research problems. You wish to explore a future career in the biopharmaceutical industry. You work well in a dynamic team environment to pursue research goals and set high standards for conduct.

      Required Education

      Completed a Bachelor's degree and pursuing graduate studies (MS/PhD)

      Required Majors

      Biochemistry, biophysics, chemical biology, structural biology, or a related field in an accredited academic institution

      Required Skills

      At least 1 year of lab experience in experimental biochemistry and/or biophysics

      Preferred Qualifications

      • Molecular biology

      • Protein purification and characterization

      • Protein/protein interaction assays and/or peptide display

      • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

      Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

      The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location for this position in California is $22.00 - $55.00 per hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
