- Design and execute experiments independently or in collaboration with staff scientists
- Interpret and communicate results in small groups or in department presentation forums
- Maintain accurate, detailed and timely records using an electronic notebook
- Participate in Genentech internship program activities and events
- Intensive 12-weeks, full time (40 hours per week) paid internship.
- Program start dates are in May/June (Summer)
- A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.
- Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.
- Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.
- Must be pursuing a Master's Degree, or PhD in Biochemistry, Genetics, Cell Biology or related fields
- Must be an enrolled student
- Hands-on research experience in a biochemistry/cell biology/molecular biology lab
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in cell-culture and cell-line engineering including CRISPR/cas9
- Biochemical expertise including protein expression/purification, immuno-precipitation, and western-blot
- Immunofluorescence imaging and associated analysis are a plus
- Experience with data analysis using R or related packages is a plus

Department Summary
Genentech’s Department of Discovery Oncology is seeking a highly talented and motivated summer intern to identify and characterize novel oncology targets with the goal of developing cutting-edge anticancer therapies. The successful candidate will use a variety of biochemical, cell biological, and genetic techniques to elucidate the molecular mechanisms that underlie specific cancer dependencies. As part of the experience, the candidate will gain valuable insight about potential research careers in drug discovery and development.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location for this position in California is $38.00 – 45.00 per hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
