      Department Summary

      Genentech’s Research and Early Development (gRED) Early Clinical Development (ECD) organization is responsible for developing and executing early development clinical strategies to provide proof-of-concept for the safety and efficacy of gRED new molecular entities.

      The intern will join the Ophthalmology team, collaborating with the Group Medical Director, Biostatisticians and Data Scientists, to support projects focusing on Geographic Atrophy (GA) secondary to Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD). Key tasks include analyzing clinical trial data to create predictive algorithms for estimating disease progression and identifying patients with rapidly progressing diseases. These algorithms will play a crucial role in refining future clinical trial strategies.

      This internship position is located in South San Francisco, On Site.

      Key Responsibilities

      • Work alongside Clinical Science Team Leaders/Clinical Scientists in the Ophthalmology group to analyze clinical trial data.

      • Present findings at team and departmental meetings within Genentech, and potentially at external conferences and in publications.

      • Lead or contribute to business-critical projects with significant impact.

      • Collaborate with top professionals in the biotechnology field.

      • Participate or lead intern committees, organizing program events and initiatives.

      • Engage in professional and personal development activities, including networking events, workshops, and discussions.

      Program Highlights

      • Intensive 12-weeks, full time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

      • Program start dates are in May/June (Summer)

      • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

      Required Education:

      • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences (MS, PharmD, PhD, MD preferred but not required)

      Required Majors: Epidemiology, Biostatistics or Life Science

      Preferred Qualifications

      • Proficiency in data analysis and visualization, with experience in clinical or healthcare data analysis desirable.

      • Interest or background in ophthalmology or neurodegenerative diseases is a plus

      • Demonstrates strong ethical principles, aligning with gRED values.

      • Exceptional attention to detail.

      • Proven project management skills, capable of prioritizing and delivering tasks efficiently.

      • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, able to influence without authority and build productive relationships.

      • Strong written communication abilities.

      • Proficient in presenting complex information clearly and concisely.

      • Excellent teamwork capabilities, working effectively towards common goals.

      Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

      The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location for this position in California is $22.00 - $55.00 per hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
