      The External Affairs Department is a new organization within Ferring’s Corporate Affairs Department, located at our office in Washington DC. The Corporate Affairs Department is comprised of Corporate Communications, Government Affairs, Health Equity and External Affairs. The External Affairs Department is responsible for strategic oversight and management of Ferring’s Corporate Contributions. Corporate Contributions include partnerships with key patient advocacy groups, physician associations, practice alliances, certain charitable contributions, and other sponsorships tied to therapy-specific conferences and congresses.

      The objective of the External Affairs intern, who will work out of our Washington DC office or Parsippany, NJ office, is to support the External Affairs manager to help refine stakeholder influence maps and develop the tools to prioritize partnership for the year to come. The External Affairs intern will also assist with Health Equity projects that will further the Ferring Mission to improve patient lives.

      As the 2024 Summer Intern – External Affairs you will be responsible for the management and delivery of key projects including Stakeholder Mapping and Prioritization, Financial Oversight and Media Monitoring for External Affairs Industry news.

      The intern will be responsible for assisting with a Health Equity project within the government affairs team. The intern may be called upon to attend events on Capitol Hill or other locations in conjunction with the government affairs team.

      Responsibilities:

      External Affairs: Stakeholder Mapping updates—create the template for mapping key stakeholders and organizational influence across therapeutic areas/franchises.

      • Influencer/KOL Mapping: work with External Affairs (EA) Director to build influence maps to plot stakeholder (leading physicians) impact across key conferences, events, advocacy initiatives, and alliance memberships. This project involves research in determining who the key influencers are across our Ferring Therapeutic areas, and the involvement and influence each KOL holds within their specialty and their influence over the behavior of other Physicians and thought leaders in their field of expertise: ex. Speaker engagements, publications, nominations to boards/board seats, association involvement, etc. Provide in written format a map of key influencers, their association or involvement with the key associations we support and provide a POV on which organization represent the strongest spheres of influence for continued support.

      • Stakeholder Partnership Potential: investigate Advocacy, Alliance, Association, and other non-profit institutions currently in our network of partners and potential partners who could have a meaningful contribution to Ferring’s Advocacy and Contributions mission. Research on-line organizations aligned therapeutically to Ferring Core Business or Ferring’s Patient-First Corporate philosophy that would make meaningful partners and could be added to our stakeholder roster. Gather contact information and provide a written recommendation in POV format of potential partners for External Affairs outreach.

      • Financial and Evaluation Updates: Work with the EA Director and Contributions Review process managers to update financial reporting documents. Manage the updating and cataloging of Event Evaluation forms. These forms are used to make sure that events supported by Ferring External Affairs department have provided all elements of the contract signed for that year. The evaluation should include number of attendees, keynote speakers, number of KOL’s associated with Ferring TA’s, Ferring branding or sponsorship provision, Ferring attendance, Booth placement, Booth traffic, Sponsorship Level (cost of event and contribution amount). Final write-up of event quality and recommendation to continue the partnership at: Added Level, Same Level, Lower Level or discontinue sponsorship.

      • Media Monitoring: specific to External Affairs and our corporate partners; monitor on-line conversations and mentions of Ferring Event activity, partner organization events and activities, other major events held by partners aligned to our Therapeutic areas or Ferring Corporate giving philosophy ex. Red Cross, Doctors without Borders, and major industry organizations including Pharma and BIO. Deliver a weekly report of key activity. Will get access to Google Analytics G4.

      Requirements:

      • This role is intended for a rising senior undergraduate student or Graduate student.

      • A degree or focus on Communications, Political Science/Government Affairs, or Public Relations would be beneficial to this role and/or pursuing an MPA (Public Administration) or MPH (Public Health).

      • Proficiency in MS Excel, PPT and Word, Power BI a plus.

      • Self-directed in conducting independent research across several topics effecting the Corporate Affairs department.

      • Possess excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to develop POV’s (point of view) papers

      • Located in Washington, D.C. or Parsippany, NJ area, willing to travel.

      • The ideal candidate should possess the poise and presence to represent Ferring with external facing customers and legislators.

      This role is expected to work no less than three days at our site in Washington, D.C. or Parsippany, NJ, on days in conjunction with your assigned team; you may be able to work two days per week remotely. This role may also be eligible for Ferring Summer Fridays, where meetings and most work commitments end by 1 PM each Friday.

      Standard requirements for all intern positions:

      • Ability to complete the entire 10-week program (from May 28, 2024 to August 2, 2024) and commit to 37.5 hours per week

      • Cumulative 3.0 GPA or above; college transcript required

      • Currently enrolled in an accredited college/university for undergraduate, graduate or PharmD program

      • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. Ferring cannot sponsor work visas for summer interns

      • At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date

      • Pass a drug screen and background check prior to start date

      • Virtual interviews with HR and hiring manager

      • Final presentation to manager & department team members at the end of the 10-week program (mandatory)

      Our Compensation and Benefits

      At Ferring, base pay is one part of our competitive total compensation and benefits package. The hourly rate for undergraduate interns is $20 per hour and the hourly rate for graduate students is $25 per hour.

      This internship role is for the specific date range of May 28, 2024 to August 2, 2024. You will be eligible for any company-paid holidays that occur during that range.

      During the internship, you will accrue sick time. However, use of this accrued sick time must occur after you have worked for Ferring for 120 consecutive days in 2024.

      As a summer intern, you are ineligible for other Ferring benefits, comprehensive healthcare (medical, dental, and vision); a 401k plan and company match; short and long-term disability coverage; basic life insurance; wellness benefits; reimbursement for certain tuition expenses; and paid vacation time. You are also ineligible for pay of Company holidays that occur before or after the internship, should your internship be extended to part-time status.
