      2024 Summer Intern - Translational Medicine - Ophthalmology Biomarker Development

      Department Summary

      The Translational Medicine OMNI Biomarker Development department at Genentech provides translational science support to inform the clinical development of novel personalized therapeutics in disease areas of Ophthalmology, Metabolism, Neuroscience, Immunology and Infectious Diseases (OMNI). Our biomarker strategies are designed to study the molecular pathways driving the disease and to establish the mechanism of action of our therapeutics. We focus on prognostic, predictive and pharmacodynamic biomarkers to enable our vision of “the right drug for the right patient at the right dose.”

      This internship position is located in South San Francisco, On-Site.

      Key Responsibilities

      • Lead a project exploring the utility of retinal imaging biomarkers and clinical outcomes

      • Analyze large datasets generated from clinical trials for patients with retinal diseases

      • Learn pathophysiology of retinal disease and how retinal imaging biomarkers can be integrated into drug development

      • Communicate and present results to a diverse audience of scientists across the organization

      Program Highlights

      • Intensive 12-weeks, full time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

      • Program start dates are in May/June (Summer)

      • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

      • Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

      • Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.

      Who You Are

      Required Education

      You meet one of the following criteria:

      - Must be pursuing a Master's Degree

      - Must have attained a Master's Degree

      - Must be pursuing a PhD

      - Must have attained a PhD

      Required majors: Vision Science, Optometry, Ophthalmology, Neuroscience, Biological Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, or related field

      Required skills:

      • Strong interest or previous experience in Ophthalmology, Optometry, or the visual system

      • Basic knowledge of statistical and data analyses

      Other Preferred Qualifications

      • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

      • Programming experience

      Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

      The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location for this position in California is $22.00 - $55.00 per hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
