      Job Description

Sponsorship: GM DOES NOT PROVIDE IMMIGRATION-RELATED SPONSORSHIP FOR THIS ROLE IF YOU WILL NEED IMMIGRATION SPONSORSHIP (e.g., H-1B, TN, STEM OPT, etc.) NOW OR IN THE FUTURE.

      Work Arrangement:

Onsite: This position requires an employee to be on-site on a full-time basis.

      The Role:

The Cold Weather Development Test Engineer Co-Op is the link between the customer, and the engineers in General Motors Canada's pre-production vehicle validation program. You will work directly with test drivers and mechanics to investigate recurring symptoms and identify cause. Presentations are developed and reviewed with on-site Test Engineers and then sent to the appropriate off-site Development Engineers for resolution.

This is an outstanding opportunity because unlike other automotive co-op positions, you will be exposed to all facets from powertrain, to HVAC, to vehicle fit, and electronics! Also, unique to this position, you will have contact with multiple aspects of vehicle development from design through to product release. This is a hands-on position that requires investigating and recreating issues in the field. As our winter test season is limited, every potential issue in the test fleet must be documented for resolution before the colder weather ends.

      Key Responsibilities:

      • Ensure safety is the top priority in all activities!

      • Work under the general mentorship of senior engineers to understand how to validate the product while learning the entire vehicle development lifecycle

      • Develop supportive working relationship with test drivers, automobile technicians, and off-site Development Engineers

      • Coordinate preparation and maintenance of test vehicles in accordance with test specifications

      • Investigate test vehicle performance issues in the field and garage

      • Maintain accurate and complete test history files

      • Capture information by examining and deciphering less complex test data, preparing reports, and document evidence in presentations on vehicle issues

      • Support quality principles and activities, and participate in team projects

      Additional Job Description

      Required Qualifications:

      • Pursuit of a Bachelor's degree (4th year students preferred but will consider qualified 2nd and 3rd year students) in one of the following areas: Automotive Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science

      • Students in a technical 3-year diploma program will be considered with relevant experience

      • Able to work fulltime, 40 hours per week in Canada (with occasional overtime), and for 4-month term (1 semester) starting January 2024

      • Basic electrical and mechanical knowledge

      • Related Co-Op, or work experience and extra-curricular activities with strong grades (please include a copy of your unofficial transcript with your application)

      • Have a valid Full Class G Ontario Driver’s Licence, or equivalent Canadian out-of-province licence

What will give you a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

      • Prior experience in diagnostics

      • Formula SAE, or Formula Electric

      • Experience with programs such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, GDS Suite, or Vehicle Spy
