      Primary Purpose:

      To assist students in learning and becoming proficient in two languages and contents to promote bilingualism and biliteracy skills that will contribute to their development as contributing citizens within a diverse and multicultural society.

      Qualifications:

      Education/Certification:

      • Bachelor’s degree from accredited university or college
      • Valid Texas Teacher Certification including bilingual or ESL certification
      • Texas Reading Academy Certificate (Grades K-3)

      Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

      • Effective oral and written communication skills in English
      • Ability to build and maintain productive relationships among colleagues
      • Knowledge of district’s bilingual and ESL programs
      • Strong Bilingual and Biliterate proficiency required for Spanish subject (Literacy & Grammar, Science, Social Studies)

      Major Responsibilities and Duties:

      Program Management

      • Serve a diverse population of students who may be participating in state/federal programs as well as general education by sheltering instruction across contents on a daily basis.
      • Plan and teach a program of study in accordance with the Texas Education Agency (TEA), district mandates and curricula.
      • Create an inviting, risk-free, supportive and warm learning environment appropriate to the developmental level and interests of students. Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working hours.
      • Assess the on-going accomplishments and needs of students; maintain appropriate records; provide immediate feedback and progress reports on a regular basis per building and district guidelines.
      • Diagnose the learning needs of all students and seek the assistance of building and district leadership for appropriate intervention methods, techniques and strategies.
      • Implement instructional, linguistic, and/or modifications and accommodations per Admission, Review, Dismissal ARD and/or LPAC decisions with students receiving services under all federal and state guidelines.
      • Confer with and foster professional relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators on a regular basis per building and district guidelines.
      • Implement an appropriate and effective discipline management system for the classroom in alignment with building and district policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct.
      • Plan and participate in all meetings and provide appropriate documentation for students regarding admissions, reviews, progress, grades, dismissals, conferences, etc.
      • Maintain an acceptable attendance rate – 94% annually (excluding approved leaves and emergencies).
      • Maintain competence through professional development activities to meet campus, district (Multilingual Programs summer PD and DL PLCs) and federal requirements.

      Other

      • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
      • Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
      • Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
      • Perform other duties as assigned.

      Evaluation

      • Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of Teachers and the Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS).

      Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

      Tools/Equipment Used : Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals

      Posture: Standing, prolonged sitting, occasional kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing pulling, and twisting

      Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching; may also require climbing stairs and reaching over head

      Lifting: Moderate lifting and carrying (up to 15 pounds); May require occasional heavy lifting and carrying (15-45 pounds)

      Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; possible district wide travel; all campuses are temperature controlled with hard surface floors

      Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress

      Probationary contract – 187 days plus 4 days of Alief U professional development for a teacher new to the district

      2025-2026 Salary Schedule

      Minimum teacher salary is $64,100

      2025-2026 Teacher Salary Schedule

      Salary is based on 187 days. If working less than 187 days, the salary will be less.

      Certified teacher sign-on bonus:

      Certified Teacher - Any field - $4,000

      Special Education Teacher (Self-Contained Assignment) - $5,000

      Bilingual Certified Teacher - $5,000

      Certified Teacher with existing TIA Designation - $8,000

      Bonus payment delivered in two (2) installments-50% (9/30/25), 50% (9/30/26)

      Sign-on Bonus eligibility ends July 17, 2025
