      2025 Summer Intern - Research Contracts Group

      Department Summary

      The Research Contracts Group (RCG) supports the scientific goals of Genentech’s Research and Computation Departments, by drafting and negotiating contracts, including management of the entire contract life cycle from initial request through post-execution activities

      This is a paid internship, located in South San Francisco, on-site.

      Intern Responsibilities:

      • Assist members of RCG with the preparation, drafting and negotiation of various agreements, including: licenses, material transfers, laboratory services, collaborations, amendments, SOWs, etc.
      • Partner with Genentech scientists, department heads, and legal, compliance, risk management, and financial departments as necessary, to ensure that the aforementioned contracts adequately address Genentech’s scientific and business needs and comply with Genentech policies.
      • Review and analyze active agreements to determine contractual requirements, in addition to flagging any contracts that may require updating to align with current compliance, business and legal policies.
      • Assist with special projects to support contract management goals and promote operational efficiency.
      • Manage contract lifecycle milestones, including financial obligations, legal updates, extensions and other administrative activities using corporate systems and processes.

      Program Highlights

      • Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.
      • Program start dates are in May/June
      • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.
      • Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.
      • Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.

      Who You Are (Required)

      Required Education:

      You meet one of the following criteria:

      • Must have attained a Bachelor's Degree (not currently enrolled in a graduate program).
      • Must be pursuing a Master's Degree (enrolled student).
      • Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student).
      • Must be pursuing a JD (enrolled student).

      Preferred Majors: Bachelors in a scientific or legal discipline a plus, but will also consider business disciplines, and currently enrolled in a scientific PhD, JD, or MBA program

      Required Skills:

      • Demonstrated proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, and database software
      • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
      • Strong ability to problem-solve and think critically.
      • Outstanding time management and organization skills

      Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications:

      • Complements our culture and the standards that guide our daily behavior & decisions: Integrity, Courage, and Passion
      • Contract drafting and/or experience working in a tech transfer or legal office
      • Science background preferred but not required

      Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

      The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of STATE is $23-$41 hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
