- Keep informed about current legislation, educational developments, literature and research in special education by participating in state and national professional organizations; attend appropriate conferences and staff development sessions; disseminate professional information and materials to the schools.
- Assist with special education program development, implementation and evaluation.
- Provide support to school personnel to ensure compliance with federal, state and local policies, procedures and operational guidelines in assigned schools and/or program components.
- Plan with parents, students, teachers, administrators, support staff and community agencies to meet the needs of students with disabilities.
- Evaluate instructional strategies in special education in order to improve student outcomes.
- Support campuses with Admission, Review and Dismissal Committee meetings.
- Organize and conduct staff group meetings and staff development training.
- Confer with principals on class loads and assignments of special education personnel.
- Assist the Director in budgeting responsibilities relating to staffing, training and provision of materials/equipment needed in program.
- Prepare reports to the Director and others as required/requested.
- Foster collaborative educational efforts among staff by supporting the district's philosophy and mission and its commitment to site-based shared decision-making.
- Keep the Director of Special Education informed regarding the status of all projects or initiatives undertaken and of directives or requests received internally or externally.
- Communicate with Special Ed legal counsel as required for specific cases, and contact Texas Education Agency via phone calls or emails as needed for clarification, or to communicate progress on Dispute Resolution cases.
- Complete State Performance Plan indicators on Texas Education Agency Login (TEAL) as required in accordance with submission deadlines.
- Monitor staff to assure compliance in PEIMS data submission as per district timeframe.
- Follow McAllen ISD customer service standards.
- Perform other duties assigned by immediate supervisor (primary evaluator).
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
To provide leadership, supervision, and coordination in the implementation and evaluation of special education services; to promote a positive working relationship, among and between staff and the schools, by establishing a climate conducive to open communication and supporting a student learning framework that focuses on rigorous instruction, emotional intelligence and competitive job skills.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Master’s Degree in Special Education or related field, required
Texas Mid-Management, Supervisor’s Certificate in Special Education or Principal’s Certificate, preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Communicate effectively (verbal and written); utilize effective interpersonal skills; interpret data, federal and state laws and policies; organize multiple and complex districtwide projects; demonstrate a working knowledge of instructional programs for students with disabilities; manage budgets and personnel, preferred
Experience:
Three (3) years of experience as a classroom teacher in special education, required
Three (3) years of experience in Special Ed Evaluation, Behavior / Related Service, preferred

Working Days: 221
Daily Rate pay range:
Minimum: $334.53
Maximum: $466.73
Note: Starting pay for a new hire in a pay range plan will be determined individually based on each person's job-related experience and salaries paid to peer employees in the same position with similar experience
