OPEN UNTIL FILLED - Drives a bus along routes and special activity trips. Picks-up and drops-off students at designated bus stops and schools.
- Inspects buses for safety and proper operation.
- Fuels buses.
- Monitors and assists with maintaining the behavior, safety, and medical needs of students on the school bus.
- Cleans and sterilizes buses.
- Communicates regularly with parents, supervisors, school staff, co-workers, and students.
- Completes all required paperwork to include route changes, MIPS, mileage reports, and student counts.
- Supports the relationship between the Phoenix Union High School District and the public by demonstrating courteous and professional behavior when interacting with students, parents, visitors, and school staff; maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, client records, and school information; follows Governing Board Policies; performs all other related duties as required or assigned.
- A valid Arizona State Class B Commercial Driver’s License or a Class B Commercial Driver’s License from an adjacent state with a Passenger and School Bus endorsement is required.
- Must possess a valid Department of Public Safety Fingerprint clearance card within 90 days of employment.
- Must possess current Red Cross first aid certificate and CPR certificate at time of employment or obtain within first 10 days of employment and maintain on a current status.
- Skill in understanding, explaining, and applying relevant rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Skill in resolving problems among students.
- Skill in safely operating a school bus wheelchair lift, and securing wheelchairs on the bus.
- Skill in maintaining order and safety on a school bus.
- Ability to read and follow verbal and written instructions and procedures.
- Ability to identify and address all student needs.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to provide excellent customer experiences, including but not limited to interacting tactfully and courteously with the public.

STARTING HOURLY RATE: $22.89 - $23.93 (PLACEMENT DEPENDS ON SIMILAR EXPERIENCE HELD AND EDUCATION)

SUMMARY:
The Bus Driver transports special needs students between home and school in a safe and timely manner. Provides transportation for special programs and activities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines:
High School diploma or GED equivalent; AND two years of experience operating a bus or successful completion of PXU’s Bus Driver Trainee Program; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must possess a valid Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card within 90 days of employment.
License and Certification Requirements:IDEAL CANDIDATES WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING SKILLS AND ABILITIES
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed on a school bus along designated routes. Work requires climbing up and down bus stairs, bending, kneeling, crouching or stooping, pulling, and may require lifting up to 100 pounds. May be exposed to hot and cold temperatures, hazardous chemicals, and infectious diseases.
