      8 hours (Full Time) (PM-Evening Shift)

      GRADE: 105

      LOCATION: Maintenance Department

      TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 12-Month

      REPORTS TO: Director of Maintenance/Custodial Supervisor

      SUMMARY: The job of General Helper is done for the purpose(s) of assisting the custodians in maintaining an attractive, sanitary and safe facility; providing adequate arrangements for meetings, classroom activities and events; and minimizing property damage, loss and liability exposure.

      REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

      • High school diploma, GED or equivalent
      • Social Security Card
      • Proof of immunity to Measles and German Measles
      • Valid picture ID
      • Fingerprint/background clearance (upon employment)

      Such alternatives to the above required & preferred qualifications as the Superintendent/Designee may find appropriate and acceptable

      ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

      1. Arranges furnishings and equipment for the purpose of providing adequate preparations for meetings, classroom activities and events
      2. Assists custodians, playground assistants, crossing guards, etc., as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
      3. Cleans school facilities (e.g. classrooms, offices, restrooms, grounds, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe and attractive environment
      4. Informs students, other site personnel and supervisor for the purpose of providing information regarding activities, safety and/or proper maintenance of facilities
      5. Maintains supplies, equipment, vehicle, etc., for the purpose of ensuring the availability of required items
      6. Requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of items as needed to properly maintain facilities
      7. Responds to emergency situations (e.g. injured student, broken window, fights, etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns
      8. Evaluates situations (e.g. involving other staff, students, parents, the public, etc.) for the purpose of taking appropriate action and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution
      9. Perform such other duties and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent/Designee

      SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

      Skills are required to perform single, non-technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: a variety of position-specific skills.

      Knowledge is required to perform basic math, understand written procedures, write routine documents and speak clearly; and understand multi-step oral and written instructions. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: various position-specific information learned on-the-job.

      Ability is required to schedule activities; collate data; and consider a wide variety of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing specific, defined processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with specific, job-related data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. In working with others, problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires following prescribed guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices; communicating with diverse groups; and meeting deadlines and schedules.

      RESPONSIBILITY:

      Responsibilities include: working with immediate supervisor; providing information and/or advising others; and operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job’s functions. There is some opportunity to affect the Organization’s services.

      WORK ENVIRONMENT:

      The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling; and significant fine-finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 5% sitting, 70% walking and 25% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and some hazardous conditions.
