      2D Design/Introduction to Graphic Communication

      Department of Arts & Humanities

      UMGC Stateside

      Location: Stateside Remote

      University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks adjunct faculty to teach remotely for the Art & Graphic Communications program. Specifically, we are seeking faculty for the following course(s):

      Design I: Arrangement and Color (ARTT 120, 3 Credits)

      A project-driven study of the design elements of a composition as they relate to its overall expression. The aim is to apply elements and principles of design, including color theory, to create a variety of compositions that effectively communicate ideas and emotions.

      Introduction to Graphic Communication (GRCO 100, 3 Credits)
      (Access to Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator required.) An introduction to graphic communication and the various roles and responsibilities of the profession. The aim is to demonstrate the skills and knowledge necessary for graphic communication professionals. Design theories and content are explored through hands-on projects. Topics include industry standards, portfolios, and research and assessment practices.

      Required Education and Experience:

      • Master’s degree in Fine Arts, Studio Arts, Graphic Arts, Visual Arts, or related field from an accredited institution of higher learning.

      • Professional experience in Graphic Arts, or related field.

      • Experience teaching adult learners online and in higher education is strongly preferred.

      • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and working knowledge of graphic design.

      • This position is specific to teach remotely.

      Preferred Education and Experience:

      • Terminal Degree from an accredited institution of higher learning.

      • Provide rich and regular constructive feedback, utilizing rubrics effectively for the assessment of student work, and acknowledging student accomplishments.

      • Demonstrate relevant and current subject-matter expertise, and help students connect concepts across their academic program.

      • Provide feedback to your program chair on possible curricular improvements.
