- A&AS test article instrumentation buildup and data system configurations for small-scale aerodynamic, propulsion, and structural research.
- A&AS research engineers, research partners, and other team members as an integral part of the test planning process regarding data system capabilities, measurement technologies, sensor uncertainties, and integration challenges.
- A&AS new data acquisition and instrument control software according to research-driven requirements.
- A&AS on data system development and rigorous testing off-line to reduce risk for deployed systems. Responds quickly to mitigate critical data system issues that arise during testing.
- A&AS new data management workflows to support both rapid post-test quick-look analyses and long-term data integrity and accessibility.
- A&AS researchers in interrogating and analyzing tunnel baseline and research data during testing and during detailed post-test analyses.
- A&AS laboratory-stock instrumentation inventory and maintains necessary calibration currency for sensors and instruments.
- A&AS with the planning, implementation, maintenance, and documentation of all facets of reliable, efficient, integrated computer information networks.
- Includes specifying requirements for new IT hardware, imaging new workstations, managing workstations in a domain, updating antivirus databases, and debugging/troubleshooting faulty hardware.
- Use appropriate communication and documentation to inform team of important issues and information which will help improve team performance. Inform and coordinate with other computer users of procedures that would interrupt, affect, or interfere with their work.
- A&AS corrective and preventative maintenance for various electronic instrumentation and data systems
- Work in a fast-paced environment while being able to prioritize workload to balance multiple projects and deadlines of varying priority.
- 3-5 years of relevant experience as an ID&C engineer.
- Wind Tunnel or other testing experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical or computer Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
- Will consider undergraduates looking to acquire graduate level degrees.
- Common wind tunnel instrumentation: Kulites and PCB high-speed pressures, Pressure Systems DTC scanning systems, thermocouples, strain gauges and force balances, shear stresses, heat fluxes, accelerometers, etc.
- Signal conditioning and analog/digital acquisition fundamentals: bridge sensors operation, antialiasing filters, noise considerations, digital communication (RS232, RS485, GPIB, TCP, UDP, etc).
- National Instruments products and development experience:
- LabVIEW and PXIe systems for data acquisition and instrument control
- LabVIEW RT, cRIO systems, and FPGA for embedded automation and data acquisition
- CLD or higher-level programming: event-driven message-handler or state machine architectures
- DIAdem for data management
- MATLAB and/or Python for time-series signal processing
- IRIG, NTP, PTP timing and synchronization standards and methods
- High-speed camera operation and integration (triggering and frame sync)
- The ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with senior staff and peers.
- Must be timely, efficient, and produce work of acceptable quality to the project/program objectives.
- Must exhibit and foster cooperation and teamwork in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Must utilize resources effectively to accomplish mission.
- Adherence to safety and security requirements in an industrial environment is required.
- Must be able to obtain or have an active and transferrable DoD security clearance with current investigation at the required level. Must be able to maintain the required clearance.
- PLC ladder logic and communication (Modbus TCP, etc.)
- HD-SDI video systems
- Optical diagnostics applications (PSP, DIC, PIV, LIF, IR thermography, schlieren, etc.)
- Laser operations (triggering, safety considerations)
Overview
Axient Corp is seeking an Instrumentation, Data Systems, and Controls (ID&C) Advise and Assist (A&AS) Engineer in Tullahoma, TN. This position will support Hypersonic testing at a facility operated by Air Force Research Labs (AFRL) at Arnold Air Force Base.
