      ABF Workforce | ABF College | Foundational Capability Faculty

      Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) is set to open in 2026 and the ABF, together with the department, has a key role in delivering an enhanced airport experience for travellers and business. In partnership with other border agencies and industry, we will enhance our border operations, strengthen security and build on current automation.

      WSI will provide an opportunity for officers to work in a multi-function, multi-domain environment. To ensure we establish a workforce to support day one operations, extensive planning has been completed to recruit our future workforce across passenger operations, cargo and other operational functions. The ABF will have a suitable number of Border Force Officer Recruit Trainees (BFORTs) and other officers recruited and trained in the lead up to WSI opening, to ensure we can effectively support operations from day one.

      The ABF College Supervisor/Trainer is responsible for all facets of delivering specific training packages and works under limited direction. This includes, but is not limited to, performance management, engagement with key stakeholders, the delivery of training programs and subsequent evaluation and continuous improvement of training products.

      The Trainer position supports a range of learning solutions in the ABF including coordination of staff delivering administrative and logistical support to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of training. The role will include course management and resolving participant queries and issues including performance management. The occupant delivers training modules from the suite of training programs managed by the ABF College.

      Duties and responsibilities

      The role is accountable and responsible for the management and delivery of a range of activities including but not limited to:

      • Delivery, management and continual improvement of ABF College training programs to BFORTs
      • Manage a team of BFORT trainers and recruits when delivering classroom phase of the BFORT program
      • Assist in setting priorities and ensure quality of outputs for the work area
      • Support complex relationships with internal and external stakeholders to achieve work area and agency goals
      • Develop and/or manage stakeholder relationships and provide advice where necessary
      • Facilitate business support activities for team and other work areas, identifying risks and determining appropriate courses of action to meet stakeholder needs
      • Coordinate resources, monitor and record all training.

      To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.

      The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance and an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
