  Abinitio Developer
  Northampton

  As a Barclays Abinitio Developer you will design, develop and maintain the ETL processes used to support the enterprise data environment that consist of Big Data technologies. You will also help build data connectors and interfaces for our stakeholders to consume the data from data lakes/warehouses, working collaboratively with a cross-functional team of ETL developers, Business Intelligence designers, architects, business analysts and infrastructure engineers.

  Hybrid Working
  We are currently operating in a hybrid working environment, meaning that many colleagues spend part of their working hours at home and part in the office, depending on the nature of the role they are in. Please discuss the detail of the working pattern options for the role with the hiring manager.

  What will you be doing?
  • Providing technically sound solutions for the ingestion, storage and presentation of enterprise data including ETL design, data storage strategies, data access
  • Developing complicated Abinito ETL processes to turn business requirements into Technology data solutions
  • Driving the design of scalable solutions while considering recoverable and resiliency requirements
  • Employing agile techniques such as task estimation & automation, deployment automation and continuous integration to enhance execution speed and product quality
  • Converting source to target mappings into ETL code, and collaborating with the data modellers and contributing to the physical data model design
  • Performing gap analysis between existing SOX/DQ controls and the data governance/data reconciliation
  • Working with SOX Tech delivery team and ensure the lineage captured and Reconciliation between hops are documented
  • Designing physical data and metadata repositories in Hive/Impala/HBase corresponding to logical data models, and date service layer in Hadoop

  What we’re looking for:
  • Experience in Abinitio and other ETL tools and data modelling with strong SQL skills in at least 1 enterprise grade RDBMS
  • Experience in Test/Behaviour Driven Development (including test automation and mocking tools) and creating narrative docs for Governance to prove controls work
  • Knowledge of Hadoop Ecosystem (Cloudera distribution is preferred), all Hadoop components mainly HDFS, Zookeeper, YARN, HBASE, Hive, Impala, SparkSQL
  • Working knowledge on Oracle, Mysql and Teradata databases, with solid Unix understanding, Python and/or shell scripting preferred

  Skills that will help you in the role:
  • Excellent Communication & interpersonal skills, articulate and detail oriented, awareness of different cultural background of users and team members, proactive
  • Stakeholder management ability, experienced in managing high severity incidents and working under pressure
  • Experience with Amazon AWS Cloud, building large structured and semi structured data stores and DevOps
  • Experience working with Consumer, Risk or Finance departments

  Northampton was the birthplace of Barclaycard in 1966 and we've been based in Pavilion Drive since the building opened in 1997. This state-of-the art energy efficient building holds up to 2,500 staff. The office location is perfect for travel from the midlands and London alike as we are based just off the A45, it is easily accessible by both car and bus routes.
