POSITION: ACADEMIC ADVISOR
REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF ACADEMIC ADVISING
NORMAL WORK AREA: OFFICE OF ACADEMIC ADVISING
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
1. Personal faith commitment appropriate to that of a Christian university
2. Bachelor’s degree in one of the academic areas of the university
3. Ability to counsel and advise students in a professional manner
4. Organizational skills, a strong, self-starting work ethic, ability to work well under pressure
5. Interpersonal skills with ability to communicate effectively through multiple mediums
6. Strong detail orientation, with a desire to streamline processes and create efficiencies
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Experience in using Jenzabar (J1) or other Student Information systems
2. Experience in college professional environment3. Experience in using the Google Suite
TRAINING TIME
12 months to perform job related duties with minimum supervision
DUTIES AND OTHER JOB RELATED ACTIVITIES
1. Perform individual and group academic advising for students enrolled in SEU academic
programs.
2. Support students with their academic progress including course selection and success
coaching.
3. Perform preliminary audits for newly accepted students.
4. Perform graduation auditing for students who are anticipating graduation or have earned 88
or more credit hours. Coordinate all necessary communication to finalize the graduation
audit review with staff, faculty, deans, chairs, and registrar staff.
5. Communicate academic policies to students and professors, such as waivers and
substitutions, transient policy, religion courses required, etc.
6. Participate in efforts to facilitate communications between departments across campus
concerning students’ needs.
7. Maintain and update institutional requirements within the Jenzabar AV module.
8. Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.About the company
