      The Opportunity

      Reporting to the Clinical Manager of Community Mental Health and Addictions, the Access Navigator is a member of the MHA Central Referral team. The Access Navigator empathically and effectively conducts telephone facilitated in take which entails the collection of clinical information from clients, families and collateral sources. They apply this information to a decision making model and offer appropriate next step follow-up.

      The Access Navigator has knowledge of available resources within the IWK and community to address Mental Health and Addictions issues and facilitates referrals for families. The Access Navigator exhibits a commitment to the highest standard of professional integrity, by interacting with colleagues, patients, families, students, and partners in a respectful and collaborative manner in keeping with principles of client centred and family centred care, IWK Health Centre standards, and their own Standards of Professional Practice as applicable.

      Hours of Work

      Various shifts, 7 days per week including holidays and evenings. Flexibility is required.

      Your Qualifications

      • Bachelor of Social Work, required.
      • Registration with the Nova Scotia Association of Social Workers
      • Two (2) years minimum related clinical experience, required.
      • Three (3) to five (5) years experience in intake and or client navigation, preferred.
      • Experience in Mental Health and Addictions treatment settings, preferred.
      • Knowledge of the Choice and Partnership model of service delivery preferred.
      • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, preferred.
      • Ability to assess risk of harm to self and others and triage appropriately
      • Demonstrated working knowledge and ability to engage and treat an “at risk” population, preferred.
      • Demonstrated knowledge of IWK and community resources and skills in navigating systems preferred.
      • Competencies in other languages an asset.
