Job Description
- Req#: 40859
- Prepares all obligating documents for approval for goods and services as needed.
- Inputs purchasing documents into required purchasing system and computerized accounting systems to obligate General Revenue and other funds.
- Maintains accounting books.
- Initiates necessary increases and decreases to obligation documents when necessary.
- Reviews travel vouchers for accuracy before forwarding to voucher clerk for input into computer.
- Serves as backup for payroll and office supply store clerk.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college and completion of an approved training course or three (3) years of related clerical bookkeeping experience.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of work experience involving inventory of commodities and raw materials.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of work experience auditing various fiscal reports.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of work experience maintaining accounting records.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of work experience preparing various reports involving commoditiestransfers, budget, and expenditure reports.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of work experience investigating open purchase orders.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of work experience utilizing an automated accounting system.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of work experience preparing payroll reports.
- Requires the ability to pass an IDOC/IDJJ background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.

Account Technician I (UMP)
Position Overview:
Do you possess a fiscal background with strong attention to detail? The Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking an individual to serve as the Account Technician I under general supervision of the Business Administrator at the Illinois Youth Center in Harrisburg. The incumbent in this role prepares obligating documents for approval for goods and services as needed. The incumbent will also input purchasing documents into computerized accounting systems and maintain the accounting records. The ideal candidate will have previous work experience involving the inventory of commodities and raw materials and auditing and maintain accounting records. The incumbent in this role will be expected to process a variety of financial documents which require cross-reference with other documents so attention to detail is critical. The mission of the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice (IDJJ) is to build youth skills and strengthen families by promoting community safety and positive youth outcomes. Over 900 staff members from across various departments—security, programming, education, mental health, and more—collaborate with the understanding that youth are physically, emotionally, and cognitively different from adults. The department provides extensive services to young people through a developmental, treatment-focused model of care that builds youth resiliency, engages families, and promotes community safety at the five youth facilities it operates across the state. IDJJ serves and houses approximately 150 youth and is responsible for approximately 500 youth on Aftercare in various Illinois’ communities.
