      The Department currently has an opening for one full-time Accountant 1 within the Finance and Accounting Division of ODVA in Salem, Oregon. This is a full-time, permanent position that is represented by a union.

      This position has the opportunity to work remotely and supports a hybrid (work from home/in office) work schedule.       As our Accountant 1:
      The purpose of this job is to analyze accounting transactions and record them accurately. There are various types of transactions to be processed daily while adhering to deadlines. Special projects that involve research of various accounting records and preparation of reports for management use are assigned to this position. This position is also responsible for State-Owned Property accounting, records maintenance, and for the review of various Home Loan system reports for accuracy. Additional duties include those with daily deadlines, preparation for and attendance at meetings, and resolving problems as they arise.

      MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

      Possession of a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Government Financial Manager certificate; OR
      A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting;
      OR
      A Bachelor’s degree in any discipline that includes or is supplemented by 32 quarter (21 semester) credit hours in accounting from an accredited institution;
      OR
      32 quarter (21 semester) credit hours in Accounting from an accredited institution AND two years of technical, para- professional accounting experience to include: a) classifying, analyzing, and reconciling financial data and records; b) designing, recommending, and installing modifications of accounting methods, procedures, forms, and records; c) preparing financial statements and reports; d) analyzing and interpreting laws, regulations, codes, and ordinances to ensure the legality of financial transactions; and e) analyzing, interpreting, and making recommendations related to accounting transactions, accounts and account relationships resulting in accounting entries.

      REQUESTED SKILLS:
      In addition to your related work experience and education, we will use the requested skills below to determine whom to interview.

      1. General Accounting Knowledge and Skills: General Accounting knowledge and experience. Governmental accounting experience is preferred.
      2. Analytical and Critical Thinking: Ability to resolve issues independently and collaboratively, anticipating potential challenges, and proactively finding solutions before they escalate on behalf of the Director’s Office. This position requires a high level of attention to detail.
      3. Technological Proficiency: Expertise in office software (Microsoft Office Suite, especially Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint). Other communication platforms such as SFMA, OBIEE, etc are preferred.
      4. Organizational and Time Management Skills: Manage complex schedules, prioritize tasks, and ensure that the deputy director and chief operations officer’s time is optimized for productivity. This work includes handling multiple projects, coordinating meetings, and balancing competing demands efficiently.
      5. Strong Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, acting as a liaison between the executives and internal/external stakeholders. Ability to manage executive level correspondence, prepare reports, and present information clearly and professionally.
