      Connect for Health has a great opportunity for an Accountant I.


      Connect for Health Colorado is a public, non-profit entity established by the Colorado General Assembly in 2011 to create a health insurance Marketplace. Since 2013, we’ve been helping individuals, families and small employers compare plans, apply for financial help and buy health insurance. As Colorado’s official health insurance marketplace, we are the only place to apply for financial help to lower the monthly cost of premiums. Customers can shop online; get help by phone or online chat from Customer Service Center representatives; and access expert help from a statewide network of certified Brokers and community-based Assisters.       Position Summary:


      The Accountant I supports management by gathering and analyzing accounting data to provide financial insights and preparing and reviewing financial records. This role manages all aspects of intercompany transactions, reconciles key balance sheet accounts, and contributes to the development of forecasts and budgets. Additionally, the position plays a key role in the month-end and annual closing processes. The Accountant I ensures that records are accurate, and vendor payments are processed promptly for Connect for Health and its subsidiaries. This individual also conducts reviews of the company’s financial operations to help optimize business efficiency.


      Position Responsibilities:

      • Documents financial transactions by accurately entering data into accounting systems.
      • Collaborates with team members to evaluate accounting options and recommend appropriate financial actions.
      • Summarizes current financial status by collecting information.
      • Audits financial documentation to ensure transactions are properly substantiated.
      • Maintains accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures.
      • Reconciles financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information.
      • Performs routine database backups to safeguard financial information.
      • Ensures financial security by adhering to internal control procedures.
      • Prepares payments by verifying documentation and matching invoice to contract details.
      • Ensures compliance with required invoice approvals and purchase order system.
      • Prepares and exports disbursement listing for periodic disbursements.
      • Coordinates with Senior Accountant on periodic disbursements and verifies disbursement listing after it is imported into accounting software.
      • Verifies accuracy of ACH disbursements prior to payment approval.
      • Prepares and sends payment remittance to vendors paid by ACH.
      • Verifies class codes in general ledger to ensure proper tracking of expenditures made from grants and other funding sources.
      • Verifies Medicaid cost codes in general ledger to ensure appropriate usage under cost reimbursement plan.
      • Reconciles monthly purchase card statement to documentation and assigns appropriate account codes.
      • Supports Payroll Manager as needed.
      • Reviews employee timesheets for accuracy and completeness.
      • Reviews and approves employee expenses for accuracy and appropriate supporting documents/invoices.
      • Ensures proper approval by managers of time sheets and expense reports.
      • Answers accounting procedure questions by researching and interpreting accounting policy and regulations.
      • Complies with federal, state, and local financial legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.
      • Prepares special financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends.
      • Maintains customer confidence and protects operations by keeping financial information confidential.
      • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
      • Assists in completing applicable tax returns for the organization.
      • Other duties as assigned.

      Requirements

      • Colorado resident.
      • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business and/or CPA designation preferred, or equivalent years of education and experience.
      • Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience.
      • Demonstrated understanding of financial standards, generally accepted accounting and reporting principles and practices.
      • Knowledge of federal grant management and federal guidelines is advantageous.
      • Knowledge of Intacct system is preferred but not required.
      • Knowledge/experience with Procurify purchase order software and Divvy expense management tools is preferred but not required.
      • Proven ability to manage and maintain vendor relationships effectively.
      • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other current financial and accounting computer applications.
      • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
      • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and integrity.
      • Proven ability to execute financial responsibilities per lawful and ethical standards.
      • Reporting skills, attention to detail, reporting research results, data entry management.
      • Effective time management and ability to meet deadlines consistently.
      • Solid general math skills.

      Work Environment:

      • Currently working remotely.
      • The Connect for Health Colorado office is in the North Tech Center area of Denver, near the intersection of I-25 and I-225.
      • The work schedule may include some non-traditional hours, weekends and evening events.
      • Core office hours are typically 8am-5pm with some flexibility.

      Connect for Health Colorado offers a competitive benefits package. Employees are offered a robust benefits package and may elect from various offerings to tailor a package best suited to their individual needs. Connect for Health Colorado employees are eligible to participate in the organization’s 403(b) plan and are additionally provided with paid time off, short- and long-term disability, and life insurance. The salary range for this position is $55,620 - $70,040.
