- Prepares a variety of financial reports and analytical accounting, statistical and narrative reports for the department, Auditor, and other agencies.
- Classifies receipts according to funds, projects, and programs; maintains and reconciles records for trust funds, claims, receivables, fixed assets, revenues, and expenditures.
- May train and review the work of clerical staff making ledger entries, performing reconciliations and preparing trial balances, maintaining payroll records, and performing other fiscal record-keeping work.
- Keeps fiscal records for department/agency with varied accounting functions; prepares, examines, verifies, and screens fiscal documents such as vouchers, warrants, requisitions, purchase orders, receiving records, and invoices; records transactions in subsidiary and general ledgers; and makes necessary adjusting entries.
- Initiates electronic transfers to interface with financial institutions, federal, state and local agencies and other departments.
- The equivalent of 3 to 4 years of full-time experience in Accounting. Preferable with Degree/Junior is okay as long as proficient with accounting already
- OR The equivalent of four (4) years of full-time increasingly responsible professional accounting, auditing or administrative experience which included significant accounting/fiscal duties and responsibilities.
- Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in accounting, finance or other closely related field may be substituted for three years of the required experience.
- Generally accepted accounting principles, governmental accounting and auditing principles, theory, and procedures. Business office practices. Working knowledge of computer spreadsheet and word processing applications.
- Interpret and apply business and governmental laws and regulations.
- Prepare comprehensive, clear, and concise accounting and statistical reports.
- Operate standard office equipment.
- Read and interpret financial reports.
- Work independently. Exercise judgment.
- Communicate effectively in writing and orally.
- Learn specific accounting information systems.
