Job Description

- Perform revenue reconciliation tasks, including reconciling Seattle Center daily operations and transportation sales with bank deposits, coordinating with City Treasury to resolve discrepancies, and posting journal entries, including lease accounting entries using Lease Query system.
- Manage interdepartmental billings (e.g., licenses, taxes, inspections), coordinating with internal project managers and external city departments to ensure timely and accurate payments, and ensuring adherence to coding and approval policies.
- Review and process utility vouchers, address billing discrepancies, and maintain compliance with retention policies.
- Utilize event management system and financial management system to manage event and activity setups, creating and deactivating project and activity numbers with valid Chart Field string components.
- Perform credit card management tasks, including reconciling monthly city credit card transactions, ensuring policy compliance, proper documentation, accurate expense coding, and applicable tax requirements.
- Provide backup support for Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Payroll, and assist the Senior Accountant with inventory, audit projects, and year-end processes.
- Maintain and update assigned financial operating procedures and systems.
- Work collaboratively with accounting staff from other units to provide information and improve processes for efficiencies.
- Assist Sr. Accountant on B&O taxes and City Commercial Parking tax returns.
- Assist Sr. Accountant to prepare the quarterly CWIP review project.
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and governmental accounting procedures pertaining to lease accounting functions.
- Experience in PeopleSoft financial management system with multiple modules (GL,AP/PO,PC,AM), events management system, and lease accounting systems.
- Experience working in a multicultural team environment.
- Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel - with strong proficiency utilizing functions and formulas to perform reconciliations and generate reports.
- Ability to meet deadlines while multi-tasking and paying close attention to detail to ensure accuracy.
- Knowledge of proper audit and financial procedures to ensure strong internal control.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to be flexible and to back up team members when needed for this small accounting team.
- This position offers the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule. Employees will be expected to be in-office at least three days per week

About this position:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Accountant to join the accounting team. This role plays a critical function in managing reconciliation, interdepartmental billing, payment processing, projects' activities setup, credit card management, and providing backup support for key financial functions. Duties of this position may also extend to assist with inventory, audit projects, and year-end processes. Seattle Center accounting team works collaboratively to ensure financial accuracy and compliance. This Accountant will work in partnership with internal project managers, inter-city departments, and the Senior Accountant to support the financial operations of Seattle Center’s diverse activities.

The full pay range for this step-progression position is $42.65 - $49.67 per hour. New employees begin at Step 1 of the pay progression, which is $42.65 hourly. Current City employees’ starting rate of pay will be based on Personnel Rules regarding promotions.
