      Overview:

      MPC is looking for an Accountant! This opportunity supports the company’s El Paso refinery. This position will be responsible for routine financial accounting responsibilities, involved in the preparation of the refinery’s expense budget/forecasts and analysis of actual vs. forecasted expenditures. A motivated individual with strong analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills is essential.

      Key Responsibilities:

      • Participate in monthly financial closeout activities.
      • Prepare monthly financial entries to properly account for refinery expenses and other financial activity.
      • Prepare monthly account reconciliations
      • Participate in the development of the refinery’s annual expense budget and monthly updates, and the analysis of actual versus budgeted expenditures.
      • Assist in the development and implementation of new procedures and accounting systems, or financial applications as they arise.
      • Assist in special projects and provide back-up for other accounting functions as required.
      • Maintains records, accounts and ledgers pertaining to various phases of company activity; and prepares related schedules, statements and reports to analyze the results of activity.
      • Participate in the completion of the bi-annual Solomon Benchmarking Survey.
      • Strong communication skills are required to effectively receive and distribute information to other accounting department personnel, operational department personnel, various levels of management, and other MPC locations.

      Minimum Qualifications:

      • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
      • Minimum 2 years accounting, finance, or related experience.
      • Minimal travel (up to 10%) if located in El Paso, for non-primary locations travel up to 30%.
      • Experience in supporting special projects and working with cross-functional departments is highly preferred.
      • Proficiency in SAP and Excel preferred.
