      Overview

      Under the general supervision of the Supervisor, Accounting, the Accountant is responsible for the execution of financial accounting procedures. The accountant performs moderately complex to complex financial accounting tasks supporting the financial sub-ledger systems.

      This position ensures accuracy of reports and reconciliations including all relevant documentation is created and stored for review, and will perform tasks with input, direction and review from the Supervisor, Accounting.

      Responsibilities

      • Perform a variety of accounting duties, ranging from moderately complex to complex transactions within the ERP and sub-ledger source systems.
      • Complete various reconciliations and follow up for resolution.
      • Create various reports comparing trends for specified general ledger accounts.
      • Ensure sub-ledger reporting for daily, monthly, annually reconciled in a timely manner with all supporting documentation.
      • Using complex spreadsheets, ensure accuracy of all reports balancing to the general ledger accounts.
      • Analyze trends and recommend solutions for issues.
      • Identify and investigate the cause of anomalies and recommend a course of action to the Supervisor, Accounting.
      • Prepare clear, concise reports or presentations outlining findings and recommendations.
      • Responsible for journalizing monthly transactions, reconciling data, preparing continuity schedules, and responding to internal requests from department heads and Executive.
      • Responsible for assigned account reconciliation and sample selections to support Interim and Annual Audit.

      Qualifications

      • Four years of progressive accounting experience in a computerized environment in a related area.

      Education:

      • Completion of 4th level of a legacy accounting program (CGA, CA, CMA).

      OR

      • Completion of the CPA’s Prerequisite Education Program (PREP).

      OR

      • Enrolment in the CPA’s Professional Education Program (PEP).

      OR

      • Degree in Commerce or Business Administration (Qualified to enroll in CPA’s PEP program).
      • Experience in full cycle accounting is an asset.
      • Experience in banking or disbursements is an asset.
      • Intermediate knowledge using Windows and Microsoft Office including Excel, Outlook, Access and SharePoint.
