 JOB DESCRIPTIONSUMMARY OF POSITION:Under the direction of the Assistant Controller, the Staff Accountant / Senior Accountant will perform monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting tasks for multiple health plans and holding companies. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-entity environment. Health insurance accounting experience is preferred but not required.Key responsibilities include preparing journal entries, reconciling bank accounts, analyzing general ledger activity, processing monthly capitation payments, and supporting internal and external audits. The accountant will also assist with investment reporting and contribute to the development and documentation of accounting policies and procedures. Cross-training with other accountants is expected to ensure continuity and collaboration across the team.The ideal candidate will demonstrate a willingness to adapt as the business grows, proactively identify and resolve issues, and consistently follow company policies and procedures.Job Duties/Responsibilities:• Process full cycle monthly accounting tasks, including:• Bank statement reconciliations• Investment, payroll, revenue, and claims journal entries• Track and reconcile weekly claims invoices to bank activities• Research and resolve accounting issues as they arise• Prepare and reconcile balance sheet accounts• Analyze expense account fluctuations and variances• Process monthly capitation payments• Cross-train with other accountants to ensure coverage and knowledge sharing• Perform ad hoc tasks and duties as assignedWORK EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION REQUIREMENTSQualifications: Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.Certificate/Licenses: None RequiredWork Experience:• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel• 1-2 years accounting experience (3-5 years for Senior)• Working knowledge of GAAP and statutory accounting principles• Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, multi-entity environment• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)• Strong attention to detail and accuracy• Process-oriented mindset with ability to identify and implement improvements• Ability to perform analytics and identify issues proactively• Ability to meet tight deadlines• Willingness to adapt and grow with the business as it evolvesWorking knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Office, and Excel is required.
