- Verifies and processes purchasing and accounts payable transactions, including compliance with divisional signing authority limits, and relevant purchasing by-laws. Provides work direction, training, advice, and guidance to operational staff.
- Reviews general ledger expenditures and revenue accounts and takes corrective action on erroneous accounting transactions by processing reclassification and reallocation adjustments.
- Identifies and resolves posting errors.
- Responsible for reconciling monthly P-Card transactions for the division and completing Level 1 reviews.
- Performs calculations to process period end accruals for various expenditures.
- Assists in the development of the operating and capital budgets, including the submission of the budgets through corporate defined systems and analysis of budget submissions for compliance to corporate policy and direction.
- Assists on special projects and assignments.
- Considerable administrative/accounting experience related to the actual job duties with completion of post-secondary accounting courses OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Considerable experience working with the city’s accounting procedures, practices and techniques including accounts payable and receivable processes.
- Experience in purchasing functions.
- Experience in utilizing word processing, spreadsheet and computerized accounting applications/systems including SAP.
- Ability to work accurately with figures and to prepare financial statements and letters.
- Thorough knowledge of personal computers and significant experience with computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.
- Knowledge of municipal accounting principles and practices and the City's purchasing policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated advanced analytical, research, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant policies, procedures, and federal and provincial legislation that would be relevant to this position.
- Ability to plan, organize and manage work with minimal supervision and complete a number of tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to work under time constraints and meet tight deadlines.
- Ability to work in teams and maintain cooperative relationships.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, at all organizational levels.
- Ability to acquire goods and/or services using assigned PCard.
