The City of Quincy Comptroller's office is responsible for financial operations of the city. The department maintains the general ledger, oversee all payroll processing, accounts payable processing, manages fixed assets, oversees debt management and financial reporting. The Comptroller is also responsible for preparation of the annual city budget and property tax levy. This part-time position is a great opportunity for a student pursing a degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, to join our team as a paid intern. This position will gain insight to governmental accounting and could potentially be considered for full-time employment.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
The Intern will be trained to provide day-to-day support to the department in all areas and gain a wide variety of experience in all aspects relative to department functions. Duties may include:
Accounts Payable - review and process accounts payable invoices
Fixed Assets - assist with processing data for asset entry/description
Payroll - assist with time card audits
General Ledger - assist with journal entries, account review/validate balances
Budget - assist with budget adjustments
The Comptroller may assign other tasks or a projects as needed. In addition, the intern may perform problem-solving tasks and data entry or updating spread sheets related to operations of the department.
REQUIREMENTS:
Must be currently enrolled as a full-time student in a local college/university, with a major in finance, accounting or related field. Must have the ability to follow written and oral instructions, work under supervision as well as independently, and pay great attention to detail.
The ideal candidate should have working knowledge of Microsoft office applications, including Excel, Word and Outlook, good communication and organization skills.About the company
