At the University of Iowa Center for Advancement, our mission is to advance the University of Iowa through engagement and philanthropy. As a member of our finance department, the Accounts Payable Accountant manages and coordinates accounts payable functions, systems, and processes. Maintains proper internal controls are in place and ensures compliance with and enforcement of vendor contracts, UICA and UI policies and procedures, and IRS regulations and tax filings.
*This position is eligible for hybrid work (telecommuting) which includes working on-site at our office in Iowa City.*
Key Responsibilities:
• Provides training and guidance to the Accounts Payable Specialist and ensures segregation of duties and quality assurance for accounts payable entries and payments
• Maintains responsibility for tax compliance through proper assessment of sales tax, issuance of 1099 forms, and appropriate reporting of taxable payments to employees
• Analyzes, reviews, and approves all expenditures from UI donor accounts, ensuring compliance with donor intent and adherence to current policies and procedures
• Monitors and approves UICA general operating and fundraising budget expenditures; analyzes budget exceptions and works with appropriate staff as needed to resolve budget enforcement issues
• Interprets and enforces 501(c)(3) regulations, Federal and State tax law, and UI/UICA spending and purchasing policies
• Coordinates electronic funds transfer payments
• Maintains and updates UICA purchasing, travel, and corporate card policies and procedures, and develops, coordinates, and conducts related training; oversees corporate card program
• Maintains a thorough knowledge of financial and accounts payable systems and the policies and regulations related to expenditures
Education & Experience : Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business and 5 years of relevant experience preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
