      • Lead the accounts payable team, including coordinating, analyzing, maintaining, and monitoring accounts payable transactions and financial reporting.
      • Monitor compliance on disbursement internal controls. Improve and update accounts payable policies and procedures. Review the work of staff.
      • Train department employees and accounts payable team on various AP topics. Develop training materials for unique audiences.
      • Administer SPU's Commercial Credit Card Program. Administer changes in supplier payment information.
      • Ensure successful monthly and year-end AP close, compile and ensure accuracy of accruals, review and/or prepare various reconciliation schedules.
      • Design complex accounting reports/statements/schedules/queries and analyze large data sets. Produce documentation needed for various audits or public disclosures, review with management, and implement suggested changes.
      • Advise management and department employees in interpreting accounting policies, procedures, operations, controls, and system changes. Collaborate with other groups in cross-functional projects.

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field (requires satisfactory completion of at least 24 semester hours or 36 quarter credit units in accounting with no substitution allowed).

      Experience: Three (3) years professional experience in general or governmental accounting (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class). Desired Qualifications:
      • Leadership and management experience: Lead experience in accounts payable over a large team or complex financial project, with strong collaboration, leadership, and change management skills.
      • Technical expertise: Strong experience with complex Excel functions, large scale invoice management systems, technical accounting concepts, and developing policies and procedures.
      • Analytical skills: Strong experience in recognizing and resolving internal control issues and exercising professional judgment to provide recommendations for solutions.
      • Communication and interpersonal skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to train and mentor others. Strong skills coordinating cross functional workgroups.
      • Work ethic and adaptability: Ability to function well under tight deadlines and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
      Workplace Environment (Telework Expectation): This position allows for the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule. Employees will be required to come into the office twice a week. Individual schedules will be agreed upon by the employee and their supervisor.

      The full salary range for this position is $40.66 - $47.34 per hour.
