Additive manufacturing system sensor integration, process sensing, and control
Data analysis (e.g. with machine learning and artificial intelligence)
Experiment design, execution, and report findings
Assist with or lead projects that advance the state-of-the-art of metal and ceramic additive manufacturing and that seek to transition additive manufacturing technology to our DoD and industrial sponsors
Assist with or lead experimental planning
Contribute to documents and reports; the option is available to present to sponsors and at conferences
Hardware/software systems integration and test/debug
Programming (Labview, Matlab, and/or Python)
Data processing and data analytics (statistical, machine learning/AI)
Embedded hardware/software design and prototyping
FPGA development
Familiarity with electrical test and measurement techniques and equipment
Familiarity with manufacturing and metrology concepts
Process sensing and control
Additive manufacturing
Image acquisition and processing
PLC programming
Electrical control panel design
Management best practices ( Git, Data Lineage, Large Data Storage)
Distributed / Cluster computing techniques
Active government security clearance

JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
We are searching for an Additive Manufacturing Engineer to join us in the Center for Innovative Material Processing through Direct Digital Deposition (CIMP-3D), a part of the Material Science Division in the Materials and Manufacturing Office at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University. ARL’s purpose is to research and develop innovative solutions to challenging scientific, engineering, and technology problems in support of the Navy, the Department of Defense (DoD), and the Intel Community (IC). This position is part of a group of more than a dozen engineers, scientists, and support staff that are engaged in world-class fundamental and applied research in the area of Additive Manufacturing.

Your responsibilities include:
This position can be filled as a Level 3 or 4, depending on your education and experience. Minimally requires a Bachelor’s Degree in and Engineering or Science Discipline plus 5 years' related experience for a level 3. A Masters' degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering is preferred. Additional experience and/or education are required for higher level positions.

Your working location will be fully on-site, located in State College, PA. Domestic travel will occasionally be required to support testing, reporting, and technology implementation.
