Job Description

- Design and validate new applications based on AM with a hands-on attitude
- Develop new AM design methodologies and application concepts based on internal customer needs (e.g. nTop workflows)
- Develop detailed business cases for additive manufacturing processes and present them to the technology owners & management with the support of AM Team
- Challenge the existing printing processes by executing the Design of Experiments for application-specific needs for metal L-PBF and polymer FDM methods
- Mentor, coach, teach, and develop engineers on designing for additive manufacturing
- Supporting innovation in cross-functional teams in all aspects of additive manufacturing including design, supply chain, production, cost, and quality
- Contribute to the FAME (Finnish Additive Manufacturing Ecosystem) network
- Bringing positive attitude and enthusiasm in spreading the knowledge of Additive Manufacturing in Wärtsilä and FAME
- Experience in 3D modeling & implementing DfAM (Design for Additive Manufacturing) principles in practice
- Min. B.Sc. in Mechanical or Material Engineering, further education is an advantage
- Experience in working with metal & polymer additive manufacturing technologies
- English proficiency; skills in Finnish, Italian, or Swedish is considered an advantage
- Proven, hands-on experience in concept design utilizing the geometrical freedom and creativity of AM
- Can-do attitude, strong teamwork and networking skills, excellent interpersonal skills

Additive manufacturing, also known as 3D printing, recently matured into a reliable, industrialized method for manufacturing and is more and more utilized in Wärtsilä. It allows for a significant increase in design freedom, and innovation in product functionalities and designs, and can significantly affect the overall performance of operations both in manufacturing lines and in products. We believe we can strongly leverage AM for mission critical components & tools for succeeding in our mission: de-carbonizing Marine & Energy industries. We have in-house AM machinery for a wide range of polymer, composite, and metal materials in two main locations in Europe, and a dedicated AM specialist team for making this vision come true.
The ideal person for this position is a broad-minded, creative but also firmly fact-based professional with a solid desire to implement Additive Manufacturing into the standard toolbox of Wärtsilä businesses.
