      Our department is nationally accredited by the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA). This accreditation is a prestigious recognition of the department's commitment to excellence in park and recreation operations, management, and service to the community. It signifies that Prince William County Parks has met rigorous standards, specifically 151 standards representing elements of effective and efficient park and recreation operations.


      About This Role:

      You will perform a wide variety of customer service and administrative support duties within the Recreation Division in a highly efficient and timely manner, such as:

      • Assisting customers and other department staff with transactions requiring advanced knowledge and experience in Parks & Recreation; responding to requests for information, in person, via e-mail, and over the phone; providing and explaining department policies, procedures and regulations.
      • Providing specialized administrative support in an assigned area, such as monitoring project/assignment timelines, identifying and resolving issues; coordinating cross-department services; preparing meeting minutes; maintaining records.
      • Organizing and maintaining files, such as creating and maintaining department files.
      • Managing relationships with vendors and service providers.
      • Processing orders and managing the part of the department’s PCard.
      • Developing and implementing office procedures to improve efficiency.
      • Organizing and facilitating department events and meetings.
      • The Admin Specialist may take on other projects and special requests as assigned.

      Minimum Requirements:

      • High school diploma or G.E.D. and 2 years of administrative experience.

      Preferences:

      • Prior experience purchasing goods and/or services for a local or state government body
      • Prior experience managing records and files.
      • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

      Special Requirements:

      The Department of Parks and Recreation conducts DMV record checks on all licensed employees and criminal background checks on all hires 18 years and older. Fingerprinting and Central Registry required.

      Work Schedule:

      This is a Part-Time Benefit Eligible position working 20 hours per week. A typical schedule varies based on operational needs but is usually somewhere between the hours of 9:00 am and 2:00 pm Monday-Friday. Minimal opportunity for teleworking is available. The position is based at the Hellwig Administrative building (14420 Bristow Rd, Manassas, 20112)

      Starting Salary Range: $30.28 - $34.00 hourly
