      Job summary

      Dementia UK and Rutland County Council are working in collaboration to provide a new and exciting Admiral Nurse post within the existing Rutland Dementia Care Service.

      This is fixed term for up to one year Maternity cover commencing in September

      Main duties of the job

      The purpose of the Admiral Nurse role is to provide specialist dementia nursing expertise and support to those affected by dementia, with a specific focus on family carers/ supporters who experience difficulties within Rutland County Council

      Job responsibilities

      Admiral Nurses are specialist dementia nurses who offer expert practical, clinical and emotional support to families involved in the care of a person living with dementia with complex needs. The Admiral Nurses will enable improved palliative care for people living with dementia and their families, working with professionals within the Adult Social Care Team, and wider multi-disciplinary teams.

      We are looking for an exceptionally skilled, Registered Nurse with a passion for, skill and experience in providing person-centered and relationship-centered dementia care. Combining direct work with families with supporting the best practice of health and social care professionals, you will call upon your impressive knowledge of bio-psychosocial interventions to improve the experience and quality of life of families affected by dementia.

      Dementia UK will support you to maintain and strengthen your clinical development as a specialist Admiral Nurse through regular clinical supervision and practice and professional development opportunities. Youll become a welcome part of a network of Admiral Nurses, and will have the opportunity to access relevant post-graduate training and develop professionally, informed by the Admiral Nurse Competency Framework

      Qualifications

      Essential

      • Registered Nurse (RMN/RGN/RNLD) Post registration qualification/ training in dementia and/or care of older people with mental health needs.
      • or
      • Post registration clinical experience of working with people with dementia /older adults with mental health need

      Experience

      Essential

      • Experience of working with family carers/ supporters/ of people with dementia in different settings.
      • Experience of working with groups and individuals in a variety of roles and settings
      • Experience of working as an autonomous practitioner
      • Experience of working with service users to develop practice.
      • Demonstrate all the 6 Admiral Nurse competencies

      Desirable

      • Previous experience as an Admiral Nurse

      • Strong communication skills
      • Facilitation/presentation skills
      • Expert clinical practice
      • Ability to act as a decision maker and advocate.
      • Ability to use appropriate information technology, including MS office software to enable efficient service delivery.
