      The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy is responsible for the protection, management and conservation of B.C.’s water, land, air and living resources. The Ministry mitigates and manages the risks and consequences from climate change, including developing plans to set and meet carbon pollution reduction targets.

      The Environmental Protection Division works to protect the human and environmental health of the province. Through the administration of the Environmental Management Act and the Integrated Pest Management Act, and their regulations, the Environmental Standards Branch develops pollution prevention legislation, codes, regulations, standards, and policies, and is responsible for a wide array of environmental regulatory and non-regulatory programs.

      The Policy Analyst provides research and policy analysis/evaluation for the development of ministry and/or strategic policies and legislation towards achieving Environmental Protection Division priority goals and objectives.
      This position provides key municipal solid waste data analysis, and researches and implements related policy tools and programs. Key responsibilities of this position include:

      • providing support implementing priority programs;
      • conducting policy research and analysis on municipal solid waste related to issues management and improvement of service delivery; and
      • supporting other policy areas within the branch.


      Job Requirements:

      Education and Experience:

      • Degree in environmental studies, resource management, applied science/natural sciences, public administration, communications, or equivalent and one (1) year of directly related experience*; OR
      • Diploma in a related discipline and three (3) years of directly related experience*.
      • An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered.

      Directly related experience must include the following:

      • Experience in research and analysis to support policy development and or implementation.
      • Experience developing, managing and/or monitoring programs or projects.


      Preference may be given to applicants with one or more of the following:

      • Experience in developing and maintaining relationships and partnerships with stakeholders.
      • Experience in environmental protection or waste management of municipal solid waste (i.e. organics, recycling).
      • Applicants who identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Metis or Inuit).

      About this Position:
      There are currently 2 temporary positions available, these temporary positions may become permanent.
      This position can be based in any Environmental & Climate Change Strategy office. The locations listed above are to assist applicants in searching for this opportunity and are not a complete list of locations.
      Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 5 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
      An eligibility list may be established.
