Job summary
Leeds Gender Identity Service is looking for an enthusiastic, experienced and proactive Speech and Language therapist to work in the field of voice and communication.
This specialist post is an exciting opportunity to assess and provide intervention to trans and gender diverse service users who wish to find their authentic voice which is congruent with their gender.
You will have experience of working in the field of voice and have some experience of transgender voice work. Any experience of adult dysfluency work will also be of benefit. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and as the caseload may also include people with autism and learning difficulties, you will need to be flexible in your therapeutic approach to work alongside different needs.
You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team which includes doctors, psychologists, endocrinology team and nursing colleagues. You will have access to management supervision and 1:1 clinical and peer supervision as required as well as the RCSLT CEN for trans gender voice.
Although the base for the post is Leeds, the service does currently offer the majority of therapy sessions on-line. We welcome any queries that you may have about applying for this role.
Main duties of the job
You will be independently managing a caseload of patients experiencing gender dysphoria of moderate complexity reflecting highly specialist knowledge of Voice and Communication Therapy, and underpinned by advanced skills in clinical voice disorders.
You will be accepting internal referrals for Transgender Voice and Communication Therapy from all gender service clinicians and will manage a caseload of people who have been diagnosed with gender incongruence through assessment, individual and group therapy sessions towards discharge, and liaise with GPs or other healthcare professionals as required.
You will provide highly specialist assessment (perceptual and objective) and intervention in pitch, resonance, intonation, voice quality in both individual and group therapy sessions, underpinned by a developed knowledge of a range of counselling skills approaches and intervention plans to colleagues and service users.
You will input into planning and delivering the voice group therapy programmes in liaison with the gender team and take a lead role in creating, developing and updating care pathways for specific clinical issues, within the area of SLT.
