Job Description

- Serve as the primary point of contact for students, alumni, community members, and campus/district staff regarding employment.
- Schedule and deliver classroom presentations
- Facilitate plans and assist Coordinator with the organization of special activities and events including job fairs, transfer events, career events, employer panels, etc.
- Provide job search assistance to students, alumni, and community members by conducting resume critiques and mock interviews and assisting with the development of a job search plan.
- Supervise part time student employees in Career and Transfer.
- Plan and host professional development and networking opportunities for student employees.
- Schedule, promote, and coordinate oncampus recruitment visits by employers.
- Coordinate training for student assistants within Center for Student Development.
- Represent department at new student events and general informational sessions in classrooms.
- Participate in institutional student development and retention programs.
- Post and update departments’ social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter).
- Other duties as assigned.

- Ability to exercise professional judgment and decision making in all interactions with students, employers, college faculty, staff, administrators, and community members.
- Comprehend complex information and explain it to prospective and current students.
- Knowledge of career and job search trends.
- Proven track record of effectively interacting with a diverse constituency group.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent oral and written language skills, presentation, and public relations skills.
- Detail oriented, a self-starter, and a customer friendly professional with strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Team-player attitude, diplomacy, and flexibility to work outside of regular business hours as needed.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college/university required.
- Possess personal computer literacy and good organizational skills.
- Experience / training in one or more of the following areas: education, teaching, academic advising, or career advising, preferably at Community College level.
- Banner experience preferred.

FUNCTION: The Career and Transfer Specialist will provide professional support to students, alumni, and community members with their career exploration. The Specialist will assist in establishing partnerships with faculty, community groups, agencies, and employers to promote the skills and competencies of San Jacinto College students.
