      Job Summary

      The Advisor, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of strategies and initiatives for VCH Equity, Diversity & Inclusion priority actions in support of delivering on our organizational commitment for a culturally safe, inclusive, and equitable VCH.

      Reporting to the Director of EDI, the Advisor will work closely with the Anti-Racism, People, Corporate Communications, and Public Affairs teams to engage staff, medical staff and internal and external partners to build awareness and knowledge around EDI, advance cultural competence, and foster systemic change and measurable outcomes through tailored programs, initiatives, tools and training. As a change agent who inspires others, the Advisor plays the roles of catalyst, advisor, collaborator and educator, working with all VCH departments, services and programs to develop partnerships, adopt new practices and inspire others. The Advisor will bring demonstrated experience in diversity, accessibility, inclusion and employment equity program creation, implementation and evaluation, drawing on their exceptional communications, change and project management, learning and development, and evaluation skills.

The EDI Advisor will work to identify opportunities for collaboration and integration within VCH pillars: Indigenous Cultural Safety, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, Anti-Racism and Planetary Health. The Advisor will share knowledge and resources where possible and ensure EDI efforts are aligned with broader organizational priorities.

      As an Advisor, EDI with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

      • Implement the EDI priority actions by engaging with governance teams, stakeholders and leaders.
      • Align and support organization-wide EDI initiatives.
      • Manage stakeholder relationships, prepare communications to stakeholders and respond to stakeholder enquiries.
      • Collaborate and engage internal partners through influence and relationship-building to ensure alignment between the EDI priority actions and other related initiatives across the organization.
      • Lead the planning and development of EDI initiatives and programs.
      • Identify and build strong external relationships and partnerships with community organizations and thought leaders in order to enrich the inclusion literacy and cultural competency of VCH staff and medical staff.
      • Identify, create and implement solutions and initiatives to address systemic bias and organizational barriers for equity-seeking groups.
      • Contribute to the engagement, sense of belonging, and retention of equity-seeking groups.
      • Provide senior advisory services and consultation to leaders throughout VCH utilizing strong communication skills and the ability to persuade and influence.
      • Prepare evaluation reports and presentations by gathering, analyzing, and summarizing information from stakeholders, databases and research, and make recommendations on program improvements.
      • Perform other related duties as assigned.

      Qualifications

      Education & Experience

      • Master’s degree in a relevant discipline such as Communications, Public Relations, Social Sciences, Public Health, or Business Administration.
      • Five (5) to seven (7) years’ experience in equity, diversity and inclusion stakeholder engagement, program and project management, change management, organization development, training and education, and conducting program evaluations or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
      • Candidates with lived experience of barriers to equity are encouraged to apply.

      Knowledge & Abilities

      • Proven experience in managing initiatives with diverse stakeholder groups in complex, sometimes ambiguous and decentralized organizations.
      • Proven experience in the development and delivery of equity, diversity and inclusion programming.
      • Proven experience working with unionized employees and/or engaging with unions.
      • Strong understanding of change management, project management and communication key principles and best practices to develop and oversee large scale change initiatives.
      • Ability to apply change management methodologies in the design and development of various programs, frameworks and tools.
      • Sound knowledge of federal and provincial human rights and employment policy and legislation relevant to equity, diversity and inclusion.
      • Strong project management, prioritization and planning skills in the design and delivery of equity, diversity and inclusion programs.
      • Superior writing, speaking, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
      • Ability to apply superior judgment and political expertise to communicate sensitive information to, and collaborate with, a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
      • Superior team building, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills to facilitate critical thinking and problem resolution.
      • Proven experience in fostering creativity, innovation, and systems thinking in strategic planning involving cultural shifts and large scale change initiatives.
      • Demonstrated ability to facilitate workshops, meetings, and events with multi-level and multidisciplinary staff to achieve effective outcomes.
      • Ability to play a consultative and facilitator role for internal teams on topics such as inclusive leadership, unconscious bias, equity, dimensions of diversity, and social identity.
      • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
