      You will serve as a Spacecraft Architecture Engineer, Aerospace Flight Systems Specialist in the Spacecraft Performance and Concept Engineering Mission Planning and Analysis Branch at NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC). As a member of the Advanced Concept Engineering Strategy (ACES) team duties includes integrating the technology development/internal research, and development (IRAD). Oversees and conducts airworthiness assessments of vehicles, operations, and processes for flight systems.

      Duties


      • Performs concept engineering and architecture trade studies for the Engineering Directorate and Johnson Space Center.
      • Defines design, integration and operational requirements for flight systems.
      • Participates in the Advanced Concept Engineering Strategy (ACES) team, which includes integrating the technology development/internal research, and development (IRAD), portfolio for the Johnson Space Center's Engineering directorate.
      • Performs collaborative, concurrent engineering studies and concept designs. Contributes to mission planning in design and requirement analysis cycles, and integrated performance.
      • Evaluates in-house and contract proposals of flight systems and provides engineering dispositions. Directs and performs airworthiness assessments of vehicles, operations, and processes.
      • Develops flight vehicle systems and elements. Issues resolutions on all aspects of development and operation, including system performance, configuration, component definition, operational capabilities, reliability, safety, etc.
      • Integrates unique systems, customer products, and project and/or program elements to satisfy vehicle design and operational requirements.
      • Determines operational performance and required modifications and enhancements to increase capability, efficiency and/or lifetime of the vehicle.

      Qualifications


      In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

      NASA utilizes OPM-approved qualification and rating requirements specific for Aerospace Technology (AST) positions which recognizes NASA's unique aerospace work. The specific qualifications and minimum education requirements are further described below and within the education section of the job announcement.

      To qualify for GS-13, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level:
      • Developing early lifecycle and concept designs to support architecture decisions;
      • Performing systems analysis for architecture or trade studies to support the integration and design of space systems;
      • Assisting in leading multi-discipline engineers or teams on design projects.
