      As a Quality Assurance engineer in the Institutional Safety Division, you will be responsible for evaluating the quality assurance programs of institutional service contracts supporting aerospace programs at the Kennedy Space Center.

      Duties


      • Generate and apply principles and processes related to quality engineering of institutional services supporting the design and operation of space systems.
      • Understand, visualize, analyze, and design institutional services performing production, fabrication, operation, type certification, and/or maintenance of aerospace vehicles or integrally associated equipment.
      • Perform multiple functions which may include planning, research, design, development, test and evaluation, cost analyses, and program and project management.
      • Work alongside contract aerospace engineers to perform various duties to incorporate new technologies, improve reliability, extend the life of an aerospace vehicle, or reduce total ownership costs.
      • Conduct specialized studies on institutional services supporting flight vehicles or associated equipment, which may include overall and individual major systems components to ensure their safety, suitability, and effectiveness in operation.
      • Establish the criteria for satisfactory quality assurance program with contract specifications and participate in contract reviews and negotiations for ensuring NASA and industry quality assurance standards are met.
      • Establish, maintain, and evaluate programs of institutional service for all phases of development of aerospace systems and associated ground support equipment from design to operational use.
      • Conduct quality assurance on the procurement of aerospace components throughout the process lifecycle.

      Qualifications


      In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

      NASA utilizes OPM-approved qualification and rating requirements specific for Aerospace Technology (AST) positions which recognizes NASA's unique aerospace work. The specific qualifications and minimum education requirements are further described below and within the education section of the job announcement.

      To qualify for GS-13, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level:
      • Establishing, maintaining, or evaluating quality assurance programs supporting the development or operation of aerospace systems or associated ground support equipment;
      • Generating the criteria for a quality assurance program for the purpose of ensuring industry standards are met; and
      • Receiving, inspecting, or checking out aerospace components, associated equipment, or services for the purpose of ensuring compliance to requirements.
