- Has experience administering grants and working on grant-funded projects.
- Brings an equity lens to conversations about community engagement and can coach and guide others to incorporate that lens into their work.
- Coordinate community outreach and engagement events and activities related to affordable housing, with a focus on Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, and other marginalized communities.
- Create informative and inclusive content for news articles, social media, press releases, flyers, and web pages.
- Develop community engagement and outreach plans for projects including the Metro Affordable Housing Bond, Fair Housing, and Community Development Block Grant funds.
- Facilitate advisory and community groups to gather input on housing issues and activities.
- Give presentations and develop talking points for managers on various affordable housing programs and projects at a variety of stakeholder meetings including Beaverton City Council, community meetings, and other jurisdictional meetings.
- Manage contracts with an equity focus, including multicultural engagement, fair housing, and rent assistance grants.
- Provide input in the development of community engagement plans for other teams in the Development Division, using a racial equity lens.
- Produce strategic reports and plans such as Beaverton’s Housing Production Strategy performance report.
- Participate in the Development Division’s communication workgroup and develop and best practices to meet the division’s community engagement and communications needs.
- Research community outreach strategies and best practices.
- Contribute to developing and monitoring the outreach and communications budget.
- Cultivate a workplace that promotes the organizational values of workplace diversity, equity and inclusion.
- Additional duties are outlined in the Program Coordinator class specification.
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, community development, social work, urban affairs, or a related field; and
- Two years’ experience in community engagement and/or communications, including experience working with marginalized communities; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience enabling the incumbent to perform the essential functions of the position.
The City of Beaverton is hiring an Affordable Housing Program Coordinator who will coordinate community engagement and outreach for the city’s affordable housing programs, focusing on engaging Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, as well as other marginalized communities. Affordable Housing is a City Council priority, and this position will be pivotal in catalyzing community engagement to reach the Council’s goals.

Starting rate will be determined depending on relevant work experience as outlined in the Equal Pay Act. New hires who meet minimum requirements will start at step one. Higher steps may be offered to those who have additional years of directly related experience to the position within the posted wage range.
